Guest guest
Jenni the first of the books is called Clan of the Cave bear and it is set in cave man time.. You follow this little girl called Ayla who looses her family in a earthquake and gets " adopted " by the clan.. Ayla however is not clan she is one of the others.... First book follow her as a child and all the problems she finds in trying to conforming to how she is supposed to act in the clan way... That is the story and the story in itself is wonderful but the reason why the book is so wonderful is to do with the way Jean Auel writes (has you mesmerised from word go) and it is about relationships and how they work and also about what life was like in cavemen day's.. I have read all of the books at least 6 times each (probably more lol) and they are still books that I know I will re read again and again.. Just have to wait till May ;o).. Second book The Valley of the horses Third the Mammoth hunters and fourth The plains of passage (and then Shelter of stone coming in May YEAY <g>)... Do give them a try (your local library will have them ;o) ) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Re: Jean Auel? Hi Lonnie > BTW I am talking about Jean Auel's 5th book in the Earth series book (it is > called the shelters of stone) Ok, ok, curiousity finally got to me - who? what sort of books are they? why do you rate them so highly? tell me ... tell me ... tell me ... Always looking for a good read, never got time but always looking to put another one on my book shelf for the day when ... Guest guest
Yes, what I loved about these books was that it was like sci fi in reverse. Jean Auel writes about a time we know almost as little as we know about our own future; our own distant past. It is impossible to say whether she is factually correct or not, but it doesn't matter; she's a wonderful storyteller, and she writes about the evolving of the human species in a totally believable way. Ayla is evolved to a much higher degree than the rest of the clan which is why she is ejected and has to make a long lonely journey until she finds Others like herself.
