The doctor said it would probably take 3 months for the cornea in the left eye to heal. Presently, the left eye is worse. I have scar tissue on my corneas, a disease called Salzman's Nodular Degenerative. It can't be cured but the scar tissue can be scraped off. This is not a laser procedure. The doctor uses a knife or whatever to scrape. I had this surgery in 2002 with a different doctor in Atlanta. I had no pain medicine or anything while the cornea was scraped. (right eye). After I got my surgery orders today, I read that the nurse will put in an IV before the procedure is done. This is for pain medication and sedation during the surgery. The surgery probably lasts 15 minutes or less. I am wondering if I should have the sedation or just the pain medicine. You may remember that 5 years ago TODAY that I suffered acute respiratory distress syndrome and nearly died. I spent 6 months in the hospital and had a long recuperation. Have any of you had IV sedation ? Eddie is not too crazy about this at all. I am going to email my pulmo dude at Emory tomorrow and ask him. I appreciate any imput. Toodles!
