Hi Everyone. I just got my pulse ox device and am thinking of returning it but

will check it at UW on Tuesday. I noticed that the reading can change between

fingers. It also seems to show my heart rate much higher than it really is.

Has anyone had this experience with their device? Also, what Pulse Ox device is

used by the most of you? I would like one that allows me to download to the

computer. My insurance will pay for it.

I'm sorry I haven't been on line much lately. I did try to do a quicky read of

the 300+ e-mails in my box but will admit that I wasn't able to read them all.

My husband is in Denver helping his 80 y.o. mother after aortic valve surgery

and I have been working on the house, taking care of the dogs and doing some

shop hopping with my quilting friends. (hey, a girl has to have fun right?)

I'll try to stay on top of these better. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hi PJ,Thanks for testing your fingers to let me know. I tried once to reply to this and it didn't go - let's hope it works this time. I took my device to the hospital today to the support meeting and tried a couple other devices other people had and some didn't even register on my finger. I took mine to the clinic and it seemed accurate on my index finger so I am going to use it there and not worry about it. , Dr. Raghu's nurse also told me that mine has a line indicating the strength of the pulse and that was good so I am to look at it and readjust if it doesn't show a strong bump in the line. Now I just have to get the courage to go play tennis and run around and then test to see how I do. I'll do it when my husband gets back into town so he can be there to emotionally support me if it drops a

lot. Mt. Ranier was so beautiful today. I am trying to find joy in my day to day life and really feel how wonderful this life is. Peggy E. Subject: Re: Different results by fingerTo: Breathe-Support Date: Monday, June 29, 2009, 5:54 PM

if i read your post correctly, your oximeter does not give you the heart rate in numbers.

i didn't know they came that way

mine has a number for the SAT and a number for the heart rate

Mine is like yours Pink...my heart skips beats and bounces around and I get heart readings from the 30s to over 200. I wonder if the heart beats affects the reading on the sats...sometimes the readings are soooooooo slow to come up.

Peggy...these are fresh batteries but I will change them again.

I ret'd my first oximeter for not working right and they replaced it right away. This one does the same thing...sloooooooow. I can't help but wonder if the heart beats affects the other reading somehow. Oh well. Better than nothin'!

Are you using the $65.00 one? I have a nonin 9500 that I paid around 230. 4 years ago. I was going to buy one of the yellow ones in case this one stops. maybe I shouldn't do that. sher, i can't believe your heart readings are so widespread

of course the lower my SAT, the higher the heart rate -- used to go into the 120's, now it goes into the 110's

the higher the SAT, the lower the heart rate -- ususally the 70's or 80's

heart rate is lower when i sit and higher when active -- opposite of the SAT

yes it does seem like it takes for ever to show up

the lower the SAT, the harder your heart has to work to get o2, hence the higher heart rate

mary beth and bruce can explain the phenomenon better than i can

PS i think rehab and the treadmill help with keeping the higher heart rates lower (115 instead of 125)

hope this makes sense

Hi Joyce,No, my machine gives both the heart rate and the blood O2 saturation % but when I switch it from one finger to another it gives me a different reading. I'm thinking it isn't a very accurate device. Today I tried to use it after hitting some tennis balls and it showed my O2 sats all over the place. Peggy E.

It also seems to show my heart rate much higher than it really is. Has anyone had this experience with their device? Also, what Pulse Ox device is used by the most of you? I would like one that allows me to download to the computer. My insurance will pay for it. I'm sorry I haven't been on line much lately. I did try to do a quicky read of the 300+ e-mails in my box but will admit that I wasn't able to read them all. My husband is in Denver helping his 80 y.o. mother after aortic valve surgery and I have been working on the house, taking care of the dogs and doing some shop hopping with my quilting friends. (hey, a girl has to have fun right?)I'll try to stay on top of these better. Thanks in advance for the advice.Peggy E. (53 y.o. ILD 2008, GERD 2009) hopefully scarring arrested right NOW

Marcia.... what a good hint! Thanks so much. I will do that.

No doubt I've thrown out good batteries too.

Re: Different results by finger

Mama Sher, When my oximeter acted up and flashing and jumping around with the numbers, and putting in new batteries, and they didn't work and the second set acted the same, and I still felt it might be bad batteries, my neighbor told me to take a pencil with a new eraser on it and rub the eraser against all four of the contacts in the oximeter where the ends of the batteries would touch and also rub the two ends of the batteries with a new eraser. That worked and I found out the other batteries I had been about to toss out were also good. Make sure it is a new clean eraser though. He said sometimes oil or dirt or something gets in there. I wonder how many good batteries I have thrown out. Marcia
