If you tolerate the acid form, then 200mg isn't very much, and you would probably be just fine with it. I take my chelators with or without food, and with or without other supplements. It doesn't seem to matter.----------Jackie also its 6mnths since i had my amalgam removed could i start on ALA and DMSA quite soon, even though my hairtest (194) showed high lead. ------------If you show high lead, then I would definitely use DMSA. And it would be best to do a number of rounds on that alone, to see how you feel on it and get used to it. But since it has been 6 months, you can add in ALA, or try it by itself whenever you want to. But I would suggest starting with the DMSA alone and see how that goes. Then add in ALA after at least a few rounds, only if things are going well on the DMSA.----------Jackie I feel that i have a lot of mercury in my brain, as my worst symptoms are, things not seeming real, and feeling spaced out, weakness in muscles, and insomnia, and thoughts really bothering me and making me feel uneasy. its getting really hard to keep facing the days with these feelings. any advice would be appreciated. Re the ALA/DMSA you said i could perhaps start with them after a few rounds, could that cause a problem if i still had mercury in my body? Re the ALA/DMSA you said i could perhaps start with them after a few rounds, could that cause a problem if i still had mercury in my body? Also could ala take lead into the brain Dudley. ---------Hi Dudley. I think Cutler is unclear as to whether ALA chelates lead at all, or to what extent, so I don't know if it could carry lead into the brain. You could try searching archives using onibasu and see if you find any comments by him on this. As far as starting the ALA, you seemed anxious to do this, so technically, since you are 6 months post amalgam removal you could start/try it at any time. But as you say, if your body burden is still high, then you may need to chelate with DMSA alone for awhile, and if you have high lead, this might be the best plan for you. And there seems to be a huge variation as to when people tolerate ALA chelation, so I really can't give you an answer as to when it will be ok for you to start. Unfortunately, some of this comes down to trial and error. Here's what I would suggest you do. Start with DMSA only and see how you do on that. If you do have high lead, then this might help alot, and you might feel better on rounds. At some point when you feel really comfortable with DMSA only rounds and have few or no side effects, then consider adding in ALA. There is no set number or exact time when this will be, you'll just have to try it at some point, and if it doesn't go well, then you stop taking ALA, and do more chelation with DMSA only. And then at some point, you try it again. Keep doing this until you can tolerate using the ALA. Good luck---------Jackie >
