DMSA only? --------Yes this is a good starting dose. The recommendation is to start somewhere between 1/8 to 1/2 mg per lb of body weight, and then adjust up or down based on symptoms/tolerance. Have you joined the Autism-Mercury group also? Most of them follow Andy's protocol, and it is parents chelating kids, so they may be more helpful to you about dosing children and their experiences. , who initially answered your post, is a veteran form A-M, and is a member of our group also (and we're glad to have her!).---------Jackie SO I started at 5 mg at 5:30 pm last night and I was unsure if that was a correct dose, -----------5mg was fine to start with, for your 50 lb son. Different people react differently to the chelators and dosages, so starting low is a smart thing to do. We can only give you guidelines, and you will have to judge by his reactions whether to adjust the dosage up or down. It will take a little experimenting in the beginning to figure out the best dosage for him.----------Jackie and the next dose meant I was putting my son to bed . I was afraid of not being able to monitor the first few doses and chickened out. AFter the first dose, he was spinning in circles-something he has not done in a long time. Probably coincidence, but it scared me. ---------Understandable. So I assume the spinning was an old behavior that had gone away, and this was a bad thing? See, this is where us adults are not as familiar with the kids' symptoms, and the parents on A-M would probably understand better. And is your child verbal? I think that makes a big difference, whether they can tell you what's going on or not. And I certainly understand you being scared and stopping the round. Best to feel more comfortable with what your doing before proceeding.-------Jackie I can only do a round through Sunday night at this point, its Sat am. Can I restart this morning, having given him ONE dose at 5 mg last night at 5:30? -----------How does he seem today? You will probably get varying opinions on this, but probably the safest thing to do would be to wait till next weekend. And it would be a rather short round, if you started now.---------Jackie Do the rules apply (if you miss a dose, wait for the next round) if one dose was given? ------------Yes, it is always best to follow this rule, no matter how many doses were taken. And I would be especially careful with young children.--------Jackie What should I do, wait til next weekend?? ---------If you are unable to chelate during the week, then yes, I would wait until next weekend.----------Jackie
