Guest guest
Hi. I literally begged my doctor with tears to give me hydrocortisone yesterday. She's an Osteopathic Doctor. I have been trying diet, lifestyle and up to 8 pellets of Isocort per day, but I was at the end of my rope, so clearly I needed HC. She said she's never prescribed HC for this problem (she's very big on just natural stuff, though she is willing to use drugs under certain circumstances). She was very reluctant and read to me the list of all the possible side effects so I could have informed consent. She said HC is very bad for the pancreas, the liver, and really messes up the HPA axis, can cause weakened immune system, susceptibility to illness, etc., etc., etc. I've already got those things, I told her. She's already confirmed with me previously, though, that my pituitary and hypothalamus are poisoned by mercury. Just to get me " out of the woods " (I never cry in doctors' offices!), and help me deal with the stresses I'm going through and the depression, she prescribed Cortef, just 10 mg per day only at 8am, for 10 days, then tapering off for 4 days. She doesn't want to do a continual dose right now, she said. She thinks that 10 days should be enough for me. I have my doubts. I think the single morning dose is going to wear off after a couple hours and I'll need more that day. Also, I think I'd benefit from a larger dose and from a longer treatment with it. Question: Is she right about HC being so bad for me? She just wants me to keep doing what I was doing up till now (Isocort, frequent protein meals, etc.). But while that's okay on some days, this entire week it was definitely NOT! I like that she's been effectively helping me with other hormonal issues and yeast issues, but is it time for me to find another doctor for HC? In 'physiological doses' HC is absolutely safe. Order the book Safe Uses of Cortisol http://www.ccthomas.com/details.cfm?P_ISBN=039807500X And print out this page for the Dr: http://www.livingnetwork.co.za/healingnetwork/cortisol.html > Just to get me " out of the woods " (I never cry in doctors' offices!), and > help me deal with > the stresses I'm going through and the depression, she prescribed Cortef, > just 10 mg per > day only at 8am, for 10 days, then tapering off for 4 days. Most likely you'll need 3months - 2 years in this low dose while you chelate to achieve cure. > Question: Is she right about HC being so bad for me? no, she is basing her opinion on pharmacological doses. 35mg of cortisol is made by the adrenals per day, dosing below 20mg assures that there will be no long term bad effect on the adrenals. If you dose any hormone at 3-10 times the amount (like dr's do with cortisol) you will get side-effects. She is just not informed on the treatment. A few years ago I reacted the same way as her to the idea of cortisone therapy. >She just wants me to keep doing > what I was doing up till now (Isocort, frequent protein meals, etc.). But > while that's okay > on some days, this entire week it was definitely NOT! These are good suggestions, but you obviously need more support. >I like that she's been effectively > helping me with other hormonal issues and yeast issues, but is it time for > me to find > another doctor for HC? It seems that way, as it takes health professionals a long time to 'come around' to using HC properly and safely. DeanSA
