My dd is 9yo and weighs 70lbs. ===>For this weight and age, a little less than 1/2 of whatever adult dose is listed on the package would probably do the trick. I was also under the impression that side effects were fewer and more tolerable with DMSA than ALA. ===>No, it's highly individual. You do know that Ala is the only chelator you need unless you have lead, right? Ala is the only chelator that can get the mercury/metals out of the central nervous system and/or brain, so it's the most important. As Andy says, the Dmsa is only there to control the side effects that *some* people get with Ala, so no reason to put up with any side effects from Dmsa, again unless you suspect she has lead. Hence, we made the decision to use the DMSA. At what dose did you start you dd on ALA? ===>To start, 1/8-1/4 mg per lb, every 3 hours during the day, every 4 hours at night. The nighttime dosing can be longer due to slower metabolism while sleeping. Do NOT attempt to use Ala with any longer dosing schedules as although it's very helpful for mercury removal it has the greatest potential to do damage when used in inappropriate protocol dosings. Many have made their children worse with the longer dosing. Just a side note, do not expect any problems with Ala. *Some* people do find that Ala alone creates some minor spaciness and euphoria, but a LOT of people/kids do just fine on Ala alone. If you note any side effects with Ala, just add back the very small amount of Dmsa you were using. Good luck, Summer
