Guest guest
Canola oil is only a name branded to an oil made from rapeseed. Rapeseed is notorious for going rancid and is not very stable. Canola just means *Canada Oil* check this link. I believe soy oils are legal but I am not sure they are that healthy. Someone else can chime in on that one http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/canola_oil.htm Charlene UC 8 years SCD 5 1/2 years Can anyone tell me why canola oil is not to be used on this diet? Both Elaine and I had concerns over Canola Oil as most of it is genetically modified. It shocks us that Whole Foods supports Canola Oil. http://www.motherearthnews.com/Nature_and_Environment/ 2002_August_September/A_Fist_In_The_Eye_of_God > Carol F. Guest guest
Elaine also didn't like canola oil because it is very often made with genetically modified seed. She was very wary of that. Guest guest
<<Both Elaine and I had concerns over Canola Oil as most of it is genetically modified. If it's NOT made from genetically modified seed, would it then be okay? Is there some other issue with Canola, or was that Elaine's only objection to it? That's all I ever remember her saying about it. Patti

Guest guest
> What is the best oil to use besides olive oil? Olive oil is lovely on salads. SCD mayo made with sunflower oil is very good. In Toronto we have a good organic sunflower oil from President's Choice. Safflower oil is also good. (Elaine reccomends the last two on page 77 tenth edition of BTVC.) Walnut oil is costly but several here have praised it highly. Carol F. Celiac, MCS, Latex Allergy, EMS SCD 6 years
Guest guest
Patti et al, I would just avoid the stuff all together. A great oil of course is coconut at least at high temps. Mild oil like sunflower or safflower are good for dressings. Extra virgin olive is ok for cooking as well. Guest guest
The oils I use are pastured lard, butter, extra virgin olive oil, safflower oil, and every once in awhile extra virgin fermented coconut oil. The only oils I use with heat are lard, then butter, then coconut oil, olive oil on low heat. Summer Summer's Family, SCD 08/04 http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/openblooms/ --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new Yahoo.com. It's not radically different. Guest guest
I agree with this Summer, olive oil changes when heated, best to add at the end, if you can get it duck fat is also great, best wishes Josie > > The oils I use are pastured lard, butter, extra virgin olive oil, safflower oil, and every once in awhile extra virgin fermented coconut oil. Coconut oil is high is lauric and caprilic acid making it both antifungal and antimicrobial. It's delicious too!!

Really you only need to worry about omega 3's. If you decide only to use the Flax, then it is still 1-2 tablespoons and you can balance with 1-2 teaspoons of borage. Andy says somewhere that it takes 3-4 weeks for the blood levels of omega 3 to 6 to balance, while something like 2-3 years for tissue levels to balance. We are out of balance because of years of a diet swayed towards Omega 6. is great with the oils so I hope she will add insight to this post.
