Guest guest
I talked with 's speech teacher today ,and we were discussing how even though he is using some words and making verbal exchanges, that the outcome is not much different than when he screamed and walked off. It's just a more convoluted process that ends the same way most of the time, so I asked her if maybe he was having trouble with coming up with the right words. Not just the apraxia, but the picture in his head might not be matching the words he finds to use. Ahh...bingo, we may have something there. does NOT like pecs, BUT he does like reference books and flip charts, SO the speech teacher is going to make a small flip ring or book for him to start at school with and see if we can use that to help him find the right word. If this is a go then she said they can laminate pages with categories, he can point to the item, and they can bind it!! This could be added to also. He is doing well with picking up sign, but he is having so much difficulty with communicating anything but merest basics. Maybe this will be a bridge to help him identify the right words for the object.
