Well glad that you found our group and surely hope that someone can give you

advice on your FIL's problem.. I have not heard of it myself.. I too had NO

inkling that I had cancer when I went in for a 'routine' scope in Sept.04.

Woke up to a big surprise. Had surgery in Oct, and chemo began in Jan -

about 6 mons of it.

Oh goodness I can only imagine the discomfort you FIL is experiencing. Did

the examining doctor who did the procedure explain what happened? Could be

when he pulled away the scope scratched something. I don't know. I was sound

asleep during mine. I had just turned over and was going to watch the

monitor during the procedure and next thing I knew I woke up in the

recovery room. Told them I wanted to watch it this time but NOT if it hurts.

LOL.. I did not have any discomfort in that area after my scope last year.

I go for my follow up scope on the 20th.

I surely hope that you FIL gets some relief from the pain he has to deal

with. and I will keep your family in my prayers. Hugs and Prayers. Jolene

Hi Daughter in Law,

I had colon cancer that was found by colonoscopy and

never had that kind of pain or any pain from the caner

or the colonoscopy. I suspect he has internal

hemhroids which may have gotten irritated by the

scope, but the doctor could easily check that out. I

have had hemhroids for years and that is what they

fell like. I also have had fissures which burned

sometimes. He should have it checked out because

there are memdications that can relieve the pain.

I joined this group because I'm helping my FIL find

his way through

this process. I would like to ask if any members here

are having the

same problem that my FIL has. Before my FIL knew he

had cancer he had

a colonoscopy test. Up until the day of the test he

had no pain.

During the test he felt pain & tried to pull away.

Since that day my

FIL has suffered from a severe burning sensation

coming from the

rectum. He describes it as a burning ball of fire in

his bottom. He

has no pain other than the burning. He is certain

that the pundendal

nerve was damaged during the test resulting in a

condition called

Pundendal Nerve Entrapment. The burning becomes worse

when sitting on

upholstered furniture, standing or walking to far. He

needs to lay

down to find relief from the burning. Pain meds just

take the edge

off but do not completely eliminate the burn. Can

anyone please tell

me if this burning is to be expected from colon cancer

or does it

sound like something else?

I didn't have this type of burning until after my illeostomy was

removed and the bowels restarted but I have experienced excruciating

burning. I was told that I have been through radiation chemo 2

surgeries and more chemo all since february 2005 and that each time I

receive the chemo it re-irritates this area. I have one more chemo

treatment tomorrow. I pray that the burning will be better in a

couple of weeks. I have trouble standing and walking for long periods

of time. I am most confortable in my recliner and the bed. I can

relate. My doctor told me to do what I have to do to make it through

the last treatments, if it takes pain pills round the clock to do so.

I hate to take the pills but I admit that I have taken more than I

have ever in my life. So my burning didn't occur after the

colonoscopy, it occurred after my reversal.
