Guest guest
Greg, I will be praying for you... I have been on 20 mg of prednisone for 13 years now... Every time I go down my neursarcoidosis kicks in high gear. I weigh about 262 and have on occasion got down to 230, stayed there for a month or so and climbed back up to 260 -270. It is a continual struggle. But don't give up. If the weight does not go away, the exercise is very necessary for your health, so do not stop biking. I would stop weighing yourself and go by how you fill. That is what I have been doing. You may slim up a bit and not lose any weight because you are building muscle and muscle weighs more then fat. I have found some supplements ( all natural) that help suppress my appetite a bit, and it helps with energy and eliminating the pain after I do any type activity. Stay focused and remember just do a little bit all the time, never stop doing something, this will keep the circulation going and that will help flush out your body of the poisons we take in everyday primarily the prednisone. We can not stop taking it, but we can help reduce some of the nasty side affects that it causes. And drink a lot of water everyday that will flush out your body also. And if you like tea, buy a tea the will provide some detox for you. drink a couple of cups or glasses day and that will help with the bloating and the run down feeling. your neurosarcoidosis brother Bob CasperFrom: gregorykrumme To: Neurosarcoidosis Sent: Wednesday, June 10, 2009 7:00:50 AMSubject: New Goals Hi y'all, Just an update on me Krumdawg (Greg). Guest guest
Thanks Bob, Docs are trying to get me off Prednisone due to Pre-Diabetic, High-Blood Pressures, and of course really bad PTSD's. I call callem bad memories. The first time on Pred it was 60 mg then weaned off after 2 months then 3 months of happy no pain then BAM flare up from Hades. Was knocked down and could not move or speak for 15 minutes. I think diet and exersice will help with the Diabetes and high blood pressure. Heck just checked after my work out today and my blood pressure was down after a kick backside workout. I am hoping this is an indicator for me to continue my work out program but will check and test after every workout for three weeks before I make a decision. I started at 198 lbs Prior to prednisone and after pred I hit 279 lbs I am right now also down to 262 lbs. Brother as you wishe me luck I also wish you luck and will add you to my prayers. May know many pain free and loving days. Greg aka Krumdawg " I DO NOT BITE MY FRIENDS!! " > > Greg, > > I will be praying for you... I have been on 20 mg of prednisone for 13 years now... Guest guest
yea Greg!!Good for you!!I it's so hard to get back in the game after a sarc time out. We all know the struggle to keep going on when the pain make you want to quit. Just take it slow, slow and steady wins the race,as they say.. On another note, I saw old fashioned, beach bikes at Walmart. The kind with no hand brakes, chrome bumpers, nice size seat and one speed. Yes, they still make them. I think that would be my bike of choice, but I have one to start on. Doesn't that bring back memories?? Guest guest
Hup 2 3 4! Sound off! (Sorry I can't remember more; been awhile since I watched An Officer & a Gentleman!) One thing about the recumbent trikes: I have a tadpole--2 wheels in front & one in back. I like it fine, except sometimes I have some trouble getting up out of it. The other style is delta, with one wheel in front & 2 in back. Most of them have higher seats, which are not only easier to get in & out, but improve visibility if that's a concern. I have 2 tall flags & don't ride on any busy streets, so I don't worry abut it. I can ride on the sidewalk down to the high school & then on to Dairy Queen, so I'm pretty well covered! I don't know about comparative costs, performance, etc., between the two styles. My son rides mine some & he's been up to 270#, which worried me a bit. Now he's down to 255# & hasn't bent the frame yet (knock on particle board). Good luck & don't forget to guzzle that water! Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
BonnieB, Yes I am Young (in Heart), But I do remember those bikes. Heck I even remember when therer was only Back n White TV in my house. I remember fondly when Pin Ball was the video games. It is the short term memory I have trouble with I don't remember yesterday except for glimsps. Heck I forgot th PIN I had for my money card yesterday (wrote a note about it to me self). I plan to take it slow. Learned my mistake the first time. A month in the hospital then a month at home and decided I would push myself to getting well. Well the granunomlas around my brain and brain stem srunk down and I thought I was cured. Well 3 months later the came back with a vengence. So I will take it slow and make sure of my processes. It is my desire to get to and maintain remission. I am Pre Diabetic due to that ------------------------------------------------- Prednisone. So I need exercise and diet to control that also. I was always active and I thought I was healthy Prior to Neurosarcoidosis. Its been hard to realize how much this thing has changed my life. I took alot to face these changes and learn to work with and around them. I will never be that power lifting soldier I use to be. But I learned I can get close to it and it can help me control this and workouts (good hard and exhausting ones)make me feel better. I know getting back on the trails and road on abike will help me feel even more normal (though I know the spoon theory and I apply it to things I do). Guest guest
, are you on anything besides Pred? If not, sounds like it's time to add another med. The following is from one of Tracie's messages: When it comes back, or is effecting the CNS or PNS (Central or Peripheral Nervous System) then you have to get them to look at steroid sparing meds-- the DMARDS. (Disease Modifying Anti-rheumatic drugs), the anti-inflammatories, the Biologicals, BRM's-- biological Response Modifiers-- ie. Enbrel, Humira, Remicade, Cellcept-- and see what combo is going to work. The site www.arthritis.org has a fantastic drug section that explains all these meds, and what they do and the side effects Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Guest guest
Greg, you are such a blessing to this group. I'll bet you light up your corner of the world, Roid Rage, PTSD & all. I hope that some day I'll have the opportunity to meet you. I've met a few of the NS members over the years; it's such a special relationship. That darn Oyster Man, Ron, had to move to Florida! Guest guest
Greg, I gained about 90# on the Pred, along with Remeron; went from 173 (I'm about 5'10") to 261. After about 3 years, I had dropped 60-65#. I've kind of plateaued at 195-200. What helped me finally drop some weight was the South Beach diet. I didn't buy the book; just got the basic info off the Internet. What it did for me was break my carb craving. It wasn't nearly as difficult as I expected. The first 2 weeks you cut out almost all carbs, then start adding some back. I don't remember the website I used, but it even provided a grocery list for Stage One. I just used that & bought the stuff I liked. A couple of times since then I've gone back to stage one for a week or two, just to get back on track. I think that if I really stayed on the plan, plus exercising as much as I can, that I could lose a few more pounds, especially in the mid-section. That's what I need to do, because that's the part that's hard on the heart. Yep, gonna dig out my papers & start that today! Thanks for the inspiration, dude! Guest guest
Hi , No need to apologize - you have a right to be "in a mood". Life is hard for those of us who have sarc and neurosarc. We have to face many challenges that others do not -- but it will make us stronger. There are many out there who are worse off than we are and that is what I tell myself when I get 'down in the dumps' or discouraged. There are many who do not make it to old age......including several of my friends. It is hard to deal with this sarc monster, who has stolen so much from us and in most cases, who has changed our lives completely. so, go ahead and rant and rave.......that is what we are here for and we DO care. Sending lots of hugs, (((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) Darlene NS Co-Owner/Moderator New Goals Hi y'all, Just an update on me Krumdawg (Greg). Guest guest
Greg, thank you. I believe this group has been blessed from the beginning. Aisha in Australia started it & did massive amounts of research to establish its credibility. I never had the privilege of meeting Aisha, but she provided such wonderful support when I was struggling with my teen granddaughter Sam, 's older sister. I had guardianship of her for 4 years, during which the sarc got its worst, I had to quit working, lost my house, etc., and Sam was acting out badly. Aisha sent both Sam & I special CD mixes, along with other encouraging gifts. Aisha reached a point a few years ago when she just had to step away from the group & passed the ownership on to Tracie & Darlene, who have filled some very big shoes & brought their own special knowledge & ways of encouraging. I believe that this group will survive through other changes of leadership, because it is so necessary, and there are so many committed members. I think you mentioned that you live in Texas; am I right? Where exactly do you live (well, not exactly; I'm not planning to Google your house!) My 3 kids are native Texans; my daughters (adopted) were born in Galveston, my son in Dallas. 4 of my grandkids were born in Texas--Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi, & 2 in San . The youngest, Jon, was born in Indiana, but conceived in Texas. I lived in Dallas for the first 6 years I was married, 1973-1979, lived in the lower Rio Grande Valley for 2 years, 1986-1988, then San 1988-1990. Been "Back Home Again in Indiana" since 1990. Guest guest
I used to live in Grand Prairie. Do they still have the toll road from Dallas to Ft. Worth? I came through Dallas this past New Year's on the way back from San . That was the famous trip with my daughter that inspired my first country song, "We Blew a Tire in Austin, Texas." Probably won't be making that trip again any time soon! Guest guest
Ok Rose DFW update for you sweetie. The toll road you are talking about is paid for is no longer a toll road. It is now called I-30. Now there are two new toll roads, and they are I-161 and I-190 and they are north west and north of downtown Dallas. They are design to link up growing communtines of Frisco and Plano, just to mention two, to the Airport and downtown Dallas. Next time thru Dallas if your hungry call on me I will either grill you something up or meet you at the resturant of yalls choice. Greg Cuz no friend should ever go cold or hungry on my watch. > > > > > > > > > > Hello everyone...and I've been attempting to exercise more also Greg but > > > > > with my neuropathy I can't for long wow this disease affects us in so many > > > > > different ways I went to the emergency room due to this severe throbbing I > > > > > feel at the top and back of my head and after a cat scan they discovered > > > > > granules on my brain. Guest guest
OO Rose your song means so much to me. For you see for 3 1/2 years 24hrs 7 days aweek I was the Mercedes-Benz Roadside Tech for an area that included but not limited to Ft Worth (all of Tarrant County), Weatherford, Denton, Hillsbro and Ennis. Didn't get much sleep during that time but the all the bills did get paid. I am thinking of writting a book title maybe Tales from the Roadside. Met a lot of interesting people. Some were just strange really strange. Dang it your song got rambling. OO well be well be good and if can't don't get caught. Guest guest
AAAHHHHH the prednisone. I too turned into a cherub with the prednisone. I had the diabetic thing too. I am on 10mg a day and although the diabetic thing is under control I am still about 45 lbs above what I used to be. ARGH I too try the excursive, to no avail. I used to walk 6 miles a day to stay down to 150. I had a gastroplasty in '87 and went from 357 to 150 but not without hard work. I will work to no end to keep from being that 357 again. Every time I see me in the mirror I get scared and motivated at the same time. I get knocked down, but I get up again nothing gonna keep me down. New motto. Jackie Prayers and hugs. New Goals Hi y'all,Just an update on me Krumdawg (Greg). Yeaterday able to ride stationary bike for 10 minutes each three times, without losing balance and falling off. Happy happy Greg. Will start increase time on stationary Bike. Will rebuild my endurance and then Start a good ole Army PT Program to get rid of this Prednisone bloat. Yes, all I will take it easy and start slow. I know I am not the young trooper I use to be. OO and Rose I think I will save up for a Recumbent trike. Priced them out and they are twice as expensive as my Mountain bike. Plus need to get under 250 lbs. (and I am on my way) or the ones for heavy people are even more expensive. Will update y'all in a few weeks and let you know if I successfully increased my endurance and if I have started my PT Program. Thank you all for all the advice and prayers I recieved in the past few months. They have really made a difference in my like and I am very thank ful to all my new friends.May you all have as many aspossible Pain free and loving dyas.Greg aka Krumdawg
Guest guest
Jackie. I think everybody on the d--- Prednisone knows a lot about weight gain. I am glad to know that I have brothers and sisters out there fighting the good fight. Like the military saying whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Or my fav is " Pain is a Friend, for it lets you know you are still alive and anything is still possible. " " Good Luck to you Jackie Keep up th good fight. Greg > > AAAHHHHH the prednisone. Guest guest
Wow, things have changed. Of course, I moved from Dallas in 1979! So the Dallas North Tollway is gone, too? That was nice, well worth the toll to get downtown. I used to live in Rowlett & came downtown via I-30. There was a bunch of highways that all came together called the spagetti bowl, and even if there weren't any accidents it was a mess. I lived all over the Dallas area. First in an apt. in Plano, then 2 houses in Garland, then a house in Rowlett, lastly a house in Grand Prairie. My poor kids. Ramblin' RoseModerator A merry heart is good medicine. Proverbs 17:22 "How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these." ~ Washington Carver > To: Neurosarcoidosis > Date: Thu, 11 Jun 2009 20:01:40 +0000> Subject: Re: New Goals> > Ok Rose DFW update for you sweetie. > > Greg> > > Cuz no friend should ever go cold or hungry on my watch.> > > > > > > > >> > > > > > Hello everyone...and I've been attempting to exercise more also Greg but> > > > > > with my neuropathy I can't for long wow this disease affects us in so many> > > > > > different ways I went to the emergency room due to this severe throbbing I> > > > > > feel at the top and back of my head and after a cat scan they discovered> > > > > > granules on my brain.
