It is true that some people need to take more than 20 mg HC per day as a maintenance dose. But, it is impossible for someone over the internet to diagnose and know exactly how much any individual needs! There are so many individual factors. Over the internet we are not privy to most of the factors, and it is certainly difficult for any individual to remember the details of any case. I have not spent much time in the group referring to (above), but long enough that I remember that there was a Val there. There is no doubt that many people appreciate that group especially considering that the medical community in general is not giving people proper support with adrenal insufficiency and hypothyroidism. ***I have had numerous people complain to me in private email that they were advised, in that group, to keep increasing their HC and thyroid meds, and that they ended up in a real mess because of it.*** I don't mean to focus on any individual case. I have been wanting to give a general cautionary note for some time now. The more people approach me in private email about this particular topic, the more I want to give cautionary notes. This is a cautionary note to people in general. It would be best to have a doctor helping each individual with dosing any medication that they need. We all know that those doctors are difficult to find, and even the ones who are very helpful have limits. I have been following Addison's support groups long enough to know that even people with Addison's disease have a very difficult time finding doctors who will give them adequate support. The patient is ultimately responsible. We can give away control but we can't give away responsibility. To help people to understand how to use physiological HC and thyroid medications I would refer people to 3 books (that are all linked to in the links section) - " Safe Uses of Cortisol " by Jefferies, " From Fatigued to Fantastic " by Teitelbaum, and " Amalgam Illness " by Cutler. If anyone is aware of other books or papers that are helpful, please let me know. I also have several years experience taking HC and thyroid meds. I encourage discussions of these topics in this group because the topic is very important to many people who are chelating. I hope that people understand that over the internet we cannot advise anyone what doses to take, we can only give general suggestions and support and encourage people to investigate as much as possible.
