emotional/psychological effects of adrenal insufficiency

Hi everyone,

I realize now I've had adrenal exhaustion for a very long time. I've

just started with cortisol etc. and am beginning to intuit and

experience how the insufficiency of these hormones might have been

affecting me emotionally and psychologically. I'm wondering if anyone

else's experience is similar.

It seems like the inability to respond appropriately to stress with

adrenal insufficiency is more than a physiological phenomenon. I

thought most of my struggle was simply due to physical fatigue, but

now it seems with the hormone supplementation that there is a like a

" switch " that maybe gets turned on that helps you respond to stress

that is more than just an increase in energy. It seems there is also a

psychological and emotional component - and I think this switch was

totally inoperable before. The inoperable switch would translate

metaphorically into something akin to not being able to do anything to

respond appropriately if the house caught fire. It might look like

procrastination or ADD - like a deer frozen in the headlights (a

metaphor a friend once used to describe me!), but maybe it's just this

switch never got turned on - or more accurately, it was left on all

the time and eventually burned out. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I feel like I'm waking up all of a sudden, prepared to do what I

seemed unable to do to deal with states of crisis previously (the

crisis has been chronic actually, in terms of my financial reality and

in many other senses) and it's not just about having more physical

energy. Or at least I'm hoping this is the case! Any comments would be

appreciated!

TK--- one thing to remind you - because you are doing better with

supplementation people have a tendancy to over do things and hurt

themselves or stress adrenals further - take it easy and introduce

things slowly. Getting control of adrenals can make a lot of

difference physically and emotionally etc....
