Guest guest
The reason I feel that Jacqui is HFA instead of Aspergers is because she is still so socially inept and the language problems. And yes, I agree, High Functioning, Low Functioning, Aspergers, and everything in between is all Autism. Penny I missed this discussion I " m VERY VERY curious about this. Autism is autism to me as well, being a mom of a 6 year old with ADHD, borderline Aspergers', and a 3 year old with autism, BUT....I had NO IDEA that when others say " my child has high functioning autism " that it WASN'T Aspergers'. Seriously...my son's teacher thinks that he may end up being HFA, and I just assumed that is that he has autism but is learning more and more (can speak more now and REMEMBERS things he learns (i.e. ABCs, 123s, computers!)... So yes, is HFA " different " than a child with Asperger's. I need to go back and re-read this discussion because I " m very curious. No reason really--I treat my boys as they old REGARDLESS of diagnosis. Im just really curious..I have no clue. Other than MY children, I'm still learning the differences. My son Seth (3) who I was talking about above was diagnosed last year as moderately autistic. He's learnign SO MUCH now and finally talking. He's VERY social and pretend plays, etc..so his teachers are very pleased ...as I am. But to me, he's Seth and I " m very excited, and I just say he has autism, ha ha. This is what I was told about Putter too, but I have similar doubts. The spoken language really is not there yet, even though he is constantly saying things, most of the things he says do not make sense.
