A bittersweet tale, Roxanne. But a sweet memory.

I'll begin by telling you all that I am not a cat person! I have had one cat in my lifetime that was given to me as a kitten by my sister , who is a cat person. The little yellow and white thing was sooo cute and playful that I could not resist. I named him . hated me. He brought me stuff----dead birds, squirrels, remnants of roadkill ; the neighborhood dogs were afraid of him and would run away. Small children in the neighborhood shrieked and ran to their mamas when showed up. He was baaaaad! He should have been named Jeckyl. He would curl around my feet and jump in my lap, rubbing at my arms for me to pet him and when I did, he would latch on for dear life until he drew blood. Yep, Jeckyl would have fit him better than . I gave him up as community property in the

divorce war and laughed all the way into my new life.

Three days ago I found three baby kittens in my greenhouse. My heart melted and was suddenly filled with joy at the sight of these tiny balls all curled up together asleep. I sat and watched them as they awoke and started exploring and playing together. I didn't want to disturb them since the mama wasn't there and I was afraid that she might abandon them if I messed with them, but they were on a dirt and rock floor! I proceeded to take a tarp and put if down for them to sleep on and in the process of course I had to handle them...Uh oh.

Next morning, one of the kittens was gone. I was sure it had wandered off and searched behind every nook and cranny but no, mama had moved him. Oh well, two still left to lift my spirits; and they did...Watching them explore the greenhouse that night as I talked to them and then finally have them come over to me. I had to hold and pet them!

Yesterday, only one kitten left...My favorite, the black and white. So sad, crying yesterday morning when I checked on her. Still crying when I came home in the afternoon and still crying last night. I picked her up and held her and talked to her almost hoping mama would leave her for me.

No more kittens this morning. I'm glad mama didn't abandon her little ones, but sad that they are gone. Oh well, as I said I am not a cat person (sigh).

Roxanne- loved your narrative! Ahahahahahah I had a big black cat named Obie. I am not a cat person either and should never have gotten one but Obie was a feral kitten and he was so wonderful! Every time I tried to pet him he would bite me so bad I would jump up and obie would fall to the floor. Yet, he wanted to be petted. I tried to make him an indoor cat and he destroyed my screens. Hundreds of dollars worth of screens! So, I let him out and eventually he was eaten by a coyote. But, I couldn't keep him inside. He wanted to be outside and he was neutered. I have not ever gotten another cat. I guess there are just cat people and dog people. Cats also get up on your shelves and counters and tops of furniture and knock things off and they shatter...I have lost some nice stuff from Obie....ahahhaahaha h Joyce

Joyce,Yes, I could never get to the point where I could tolerate having a cat on my table, cabinets, and counters.   Eeeuuuuu. Everyone told me to have neutered and that would calm him down----wrong!  I'm like you, give me a good ole dog anyday!Roxanne, 59, South Carolina
