Guest guest
Len: I feel the same way. I have one horrible week followed by some great days and great times. I am feeling well today and went to Venice Beach with my son and his friend. We rented bicycles and rode the bike trail along the beach. It was so beautiful. I can't believe I can still do things like this. The weather was wonderful - in the 70s. Where do you live? Have you tried any probiotics for the constipation/diarrhea? If not, I would recommend you try a good brand that has live beneficial bacteria. I cannot say for sure that they work but with everything our bodies are going through I think we need them. I have a liquid type that I bought at Whole Foods markets. It is the most expensive I have found but it supposedly contains multi-strains of live bacteria. I am going downstairs now to find one. Here's to more and more peachy days. Hi Pat, I've had great days and horrible days. I can't seem to get the constipation/diarrhea thing straighted out and yesterday was a real horrible day after a night of diarrhea. Today was just peachy. I think if I just quit eating I would be fine. Ha ha I felt so good today I did a long fast walk that I haven't been able to do in a long time. Take care. Guest guest
Hi Len, My husband had a similar condition to yours. He developed his first lung met one year after his initial colon surgery. Unfortunately we were told he was cured because he had 24 negative lymph nodes. We begged for follow up chemo and the Oncologist refused. Our first big mistake was not following our gut feeling and get a second opinion. Do you actually know if you have mets or lung cancer? That is really important in the way you receive treatment. We found a young surgeon that was able to go into the lung with a endoscope? and pull out one of the tiny nodules. It turned out to truly be colon cancer of the lung. opted to have a wedge of his lung removed to try to get rid of the bigger nodule and maybe free him of his disease. He was put on Xeloda and Avastin. One year later a scan showed another nodule or maybe the same one removed with the wedge was back. He also had a very tiny nodule in the other lung. We decided this time to try something new. The surgeon that used the endoscope was starting to do Radio Frequency Ablation to the lungs. He had the RFA and that was a piece of cake except that the equipment failed and he had to go back and have it done again. We thought the procedure was a success but one year later the same " tumor from hell " was back again. We had a long talk with our new Oncologist and he suggested giving SR a try. They were doing the procedure at Cancer Therapy and Research where he is located. The SR is a fairly easy procedure to go thru. had to go for 3 treatments in one week. Each actual treatment lasted about 15 minutes. There was no side effect except for extreme fatigue. This lasted for about 6 weeks. The procedure was a success. Len, colon cancer in the lung is a much slower growing cancer than true lung cancer. That is one thing in your favor. I might be wrong but I think the tumor can not exceed 5cm for either procedure. You might want to do some research on these two options. I don't know if they are a option for you but it is worth the try. I lost my best friend () this last April, after a five year fight. He developed DVT to the leg and multiple blood clots escaped to his lungs. They put a filter in to catch them but they had his blood soooo thined out that he hemoraged. He was supposed to come home the next morning and was looking forward to taking a new regimin of chemo. I don't post a lot these days but am always here to help anyone that may have a problem. I still feel like this is all just a bad dream. I am getting better and hope that after Christmas I can do volunteer work at our Cancer center. I developed a special closness with our Oncologist and his nurse and still talk with them. I will never give up trying to learn all I can about colon cancer, mainly because my kids have a 80% chance of getting this disease. My Son and I just had our colonoscopies two weeks ago. He was clean but I did have a polyp that was removed and sent for biopsy. If you need or have any question please do not hesitate to email me.
