Guest guest
Donelle, Now that your scarey ordeal is over I want to share an expierence of mine. My husband is 6'2 and about 300 pounds. I am 5'6 and at the time weighted 130 punds. He had to have a tooth pulled. Well this took place on the third floor of this office. They put him to sleep for this procedure since his roots were growing around the jaw bone. As we were leaving the nurse told me he may be dizzy and may fall so I should be careful and watch. Now please don't get me wrong. I love my husband. But the thought of trying to catch him if he were to fall scared me. I mean he would, could crush me. As we were leaving and in the elevator he did look like this might happen as he was holding on the wall. All I could think of if he falls, I am going to have to get out of the way. LOL I know NOT NICE of me. But come on this could cause major damage to me. Could it not???? Then all i could think of is that if this did happen?? He would not know that I stepped away so he would not land on me. Would he???? I must be a terrible wife!!!! I know how difficult this must be for you. My dad had the same problem and he didn't have cancer, just dementia and diabetes. It turned out he had some serious heart problems too, but nobody's sure when that all started. My mom had to call fire rescue several times to get him up off the floor. He was weak and he'd just miss the chair completely, or not get far enough and hit the arm and fall on the floor. It was pretty bad there toward the end. Twice he fell and hit his head, split it open on the stationary bike and had to have stitches in almost exactly the same place on his forehead. I know the hospital was beginning to think my mom must be abusing him. Then the ceiling fell in on top of him (literally) and when they found the plaster and stuff in his shirt pocket, they believed her about what happened...lol. That's an interesting story. I also know what it's like to try to get the dead weight up off the floor. He was also 6'4 " and even though he'd lost a lot of weight, my mom and I still couldn't do it a couple times. I'm so sorry all this is going on with you too. I can only keep you both in my prayers and let you know I'm thinking of you a lot. Wish I could be there to help you, but I'm there in spirit, if not in body. Geez, ... I'm so far behind in acknowledging emails!! Glenn is doing fairly well at using the walker, which I never thought would happen...sometimes he ventures around the house without it, which makes me very nervous. But, I'll know next time to call 911 first!! It's taken me a week for my back and neck to somewhat recover!! Thanks for the prayers... Lots of hugs and prayers, Donelle Caregiver to Glenn
