Guest guest
Caroline thinks her sender was fibbing about airmail - well I received a package yesterday posted on 10th in California - I suspect it was left in a heap at the airport and subsequent mail piled on top. A box was sent at the same time on the same day and that hasn't appeared yet (but may well be in customs) ly I am suspicious of whether post in this country goes first or second class, I think it tends to get held onto if there's a 19p stamp but for bigger stuff I often split a 1200g size parcel into 2 so I only pay 2nd class postage which isn't available over 750g (and if it gets lost I'm better spread), I don't think the postmen know whether its first or second. Delivery is so hit and miss, sometimes I might send two parcels, and one will arrive next day, the other the day after. Strange when you consider they both go in the same sack at the same time at the post office! I have also found the quickest service is to be had by filling the local postbox at 6.30pm to catch the last post. Virtually everything that goes in gets next day delivery whether first or second class. My theory there is that when it gets back to the PO depot and is sorted it ends on top of the pile so goes off into a sack to get off to its destination first. Then when the mailbags are emptied for final sorting at the delivery depot it ends on top of the heap and gets sorted into the postman's pigeon hole first. Or something like that.
