Guest guest
Dyane, Honestly I think it has to do with just what you said, consciously breathing both deeply and completely. A deep inhale followed by a complete exhale. This is why it works for both our lung disease and for folks with COPD or emphysema too. It's amazing isn't it? I can keep my sats up for a long time using that technique. I'm sure you do feel as though your "lung bottoms" have stiffened. They most likely have, mine have, that's for sure. When was the last time you had a big satisfying yawn? I haven't in years and I miss it. I'm glad it helped you when you needed it. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't bring extra tanks in my car.....I'd be very very limited in what I could do and that would drive me nutty! I pulled a Beth and ran my E tank dry and had to drive from my daughters house to mine, a 35 min trip. Had my oxymeter with me and as soon as I got in the truck I put in on..80, started the breathing and got up to 92. The minute I would stop my sats would dive again. Is it because we are conciously inhaling and exhaling deeper? I know I have a real problem with shallow breathing. I feel (and I'm hoping they can tell me when I go to NJH) that my 'lung bottoms" have definately stiffened. I don't feel like I can breathe into my abdomen anymore, you know like if you were really gonna belt out a song. Its almost like my diaphram goes so far and won't go any farther. I need to carry a full e tank but right now it can reach 130 degrees in my car during the day and I just don't like having the tanks in the car in that heat. They won't explode but they can blow a regulator at that temp, the o2 people have warned me about it. Gotta love Phoenix in the summer ha ha hee hee. Guest guest
Joyce, And would you believe that there are still IDIOTS that leave their kids and animals in the car cuz " they would just be gone a minute " I would have to change suppliers as they do not do liquid, not a big deal but I would need to know if I can still get the high flow with liquid. The lowest I use is 5 pulse as they have no higher regulators. At home my concentrator is set to 8 and there she stays. I need to lose more weight so I can maybe get a lung but yadda yadda yadda been there, still trying, not giving up. I'm thinking I need to do more investigations and since I'm getting my internet turned back on a home I can do more studying at home on the weekends. Thanks and I will get around to calling you lol been one of those weeks! Dyane Phoenix IPF 02 > > Dyane- have you thought of changing your oxygen to LIQUID? I am on Liquid and I can go 8 hours on one of my portables. Don't ever leave it in the car...When visiting Phoenix once I left a candy bar in my car for just an hour while I went inside to shop and when I came back it was liquid. I had a hell of a time cleaning it out of my car seat! Guest guest
DUH Nevermind last post, should have read further Dyane > > Liquid uses ONE portable that you can wear on your back or your hip or around your waist. I have the Marathon and it gives me 8 hours to 10 hours of air...that is NOT on continuous feed. But it does well for me. So, does it last longer???? I don't know because people on compressed air have many many tanks while I have only one. Liquid is also " purer " ...it has to be used as you get into the higher LPM. So, if you want to have only one tank...that can last the day then LIquid, I have found, is the way to go. Guest guest
Beth, The thing with me is I don't really need to use more tanks in the car. If I'm only walking a short bit, they last plenty long, I use the electric carts in all stores now. If I'm going anywhere for the whole day and a lot of walking then I take my Jazzy to ride because I can use lower levels as I'm just sitting. I have a concentrator at home and at work and if I'm going to one of my childrens I take my concentrator on the lift for the chair so I have it. Works pretty good, I just wish I could the higher liter flow in a portable, it would be soooo nice if I could get a portable that would give me 6 or above on pulse. Guest guest
I use the canisters with a conserver. At 2 lpm on an E tank Icould go for 28 hours. Now I have it higher so I probably get 22 hours. I was getting 9 hours on a C tank. I don't know how long it goes at 2 1/2 or 3. I always carry a spare.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: Re: Pursed lip breathingTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, July 31, 2009, 1:41 PM Liquid uses ONE portable that you can wear on your back or your hip or around your waist.
