Guest guest
Can anyone point me in the direction of any resources on BCG immunisation in infants? We have been offered it (in SE London) and our mw suggests that we have it and that there are not likely to be side effects. I am not against it in principle but don't know anythingabout this one and haven't had much luck finding anything so far on BCG apart form for the one at puberty (ok, I haven't been looking *very* long yet). Actually, whilst I am on, does anyone have any recommendations for child health reference books suitable for first time parents. james gtw :-( dad to eva grace 12 days
Guest guest
I don;t have info...but our eldest was born in Isleworth and was given the BCG at 3 days. I was quiet happy for her to have it (we knew it would be offered) because of the increased risk of TB in the area in which we lived/had toddler groups/clinics etc. there were, for her no side effects at all. I'm not an advocate of blanket vaccination at the times decided by Powers That Be at all, but we did weight up the situation. Not sure if this helps you or not, I'm sure someone can point you in the right direction for *real* info! _________________ Angi 0:-) Georgi 3y 11months and 5 days... I remember asking lots of questions at the time - and there are no side effects - although the older version of the jab(ie 30-40 years ago) wasn't so good, it appears they have now sorted it out. Both my boys were done at 4 weeks (huge TB family history) Caroline

Guest guest
All I can tell you is anecdotal evidence that I have from my mum (school nurse and responsible for administering vaccinations in schools), that the BCG is a very long standing vacination and is deemed to be very safe and have little or no side effects. Our daughter had the BCG vac at 3 weeks (we were living in Tower Hamlets at the time) and it was very straightforward - the baby doesnt get an injection with a hyperdermic but only the heaf test with the stamping thing. She didnt cry and didnt have any mark for some weeks, then a small ciricle of pinpricks developed which faded over a month or so. We decided that living were we did it was a must to have the BCG vac. HTH sorry no references or techinical stuff! liz
