Guest guest
Cops found the van dumped in downtown Toronto early this morning. No sign of the dog. :-( Before school this morning, I started calling every town's humane society and animal control office between where my parents were and the city -- about 10 districts SOUTH. Then I dropped off. When I got in the door, the phone was ringing - my mom. Spike was found, and is in Barrie, a city 45 minutes NORTH of us! I called the guy who found him. The short story: the bad guys put Spike's collar on him AND PUT HIM IN THE MEN'S BATHROOM IN A NORTHBOUND REST STOP! The bad guys actually made sure the dog was safe and would get found and wouldn't get run over on the highway!!!!!!!!! So they were good-hearted bad guys with consciences after all. :-) I'm going to pick him up in an hour. My poor dad is in at the insurance place right now and doesn't even know he's been found! The guy who found him (a college student!) said, " He's doing well, but he's not eating. " I said " no, neither is my dad. " :-( :-D Jacquie

Guest guest
Wow - VERY happy ending. That is awesome news. I sure hope your Dad and Spike will start eating again soon. I know pets feel like part of the family and I know about losing them. I was praying so hard he would be found. Guest guest
Hardly read at all yesterday, so I read the bad news and the good news almost at once. SO GOOD TO HEAR ABOUT THE DOG! Nice pet-loving car thieves! Salli

SO GOOD TO HEAR ABOUT THE DOG! > > Nice pet-loving car thieves! They didn't do any damage to the van, either, except for busting the ignition so they could hot-wire it. I'm guessing it was kids just out for a joy ride, not out to do harm. Spike is trying desperately to lie on the back of my couch, the spot he favours at my parents'...but my couch has no back ledge! Poor little guy keeps falling off. LOL. Jacquie

My parents got it back yesterday. The ignition was busted out and the rearview mirror was pulled off. The glove box and everything had been looted and they took my dad's bottle of prescription Tagamet and the retractable dog leash. They left everything else, including my parents' coats and the stash of food and blankets in their winter emergency kit. They left behind a set of earphones and a photograph of some girl's fully clothed bum that was NOT a polaroid, so one of them must have been carrying it with them. BIZARRE.
