Guest guest
Today Putter's bus came just as he was rearranging his train and helicopter display that he set up on the counter by the living room bookcase. He was in a good mood because he was wearing his raincoat with the dinosaur lining. He is very fond of that coat. I walked out of the house with Robbie. Often, if I do that, Putter will run after me. He did not. He was still finishing his display. He does better generally if he is allowed to finish things. But there the bus sat. The driver could see me. I could see her. I called in to Sophie, " Please tell Putter that Mama is leaving. " Sophie told him. Still he remained. Sophie said, " He just has a little bit to go, I think. " I waited. The bus waited. I walked down to the bus with Robbie. I could see Robbie's bus coming. I told the driver that Putter was finishing up something and would be there in a minute. She is a very nice person, but she looked at me as if I was nuts. Oh, well. But Putter did not come. So I went to bring him forcibly. There really is a limit to how long you can wait. He looked as if he was almost done; he was just fixing the helicopter blades so that they were at the correct angle. I picked him up and, as I did so, I knocked a large part of the Putter display down. HUGE SCREAM OF RAGE FROM PUTTER! Are you surprised? No, probably not. Naturally Putter's plan would be to repair all the damage before leaving. Unfortunately that play was not workable. I told Putter that he could do it tonight when he got home from school. " Today! " shouted Putter. I carried the furious Putter out the door, then realized that he was screaming for his waffles that he had set on the counter while he worked on his display. I yelled for Sophie to grab them and, when she came, I thrust Putter and Robbie's backpacks at her, " You'll have to come and help, " I shouted over Putter angry screams. Robbie, bless him, just followed me docilely. Poor Sophie was barefoot, and it was around fifty degrees and wet outside. She was not happy. Of course, she was supposed to be more ready than that... Anyway, I fought Putter onto the bus and could not strap him in as he simply unstrapped the seatbelt. The bus driver told him it would be the harness if he did not behave and told me to get off as Putter often is better behaved once I am off and he realizes that his chance of escaping school is pretty much over (he has always had a very pragmatic side to him). Robbie and Sophie and I got off the bus, poor Sophie shivering. Sigh. Great way to start a morning. Salli
