I have alot of luck at yard sales with old clothes of 's and toys she

doesn't play with any more. We also do well with old videotapes that we

don't watch anymore.

The variety club sponsors two days a year that disabilied kids get in with

their families for free all you have to do is pay for parking.

We do get our tickets there normally half off during the year. I'd email

disney about this as well.

Okay I need a few hugs and a lot of ideas. We are dead broke and supposed to

go on vacation in just over a month. My husband's job takes care of the

condo arrangements for while we are there - we just have to get there and

pay for food while we're there. We'd love to go to DisneyWorld, but I dont'

see HOW we can possibly afford that right now. :( I was really looking

forward to taking the boys to the Magic Kingdom too, oh well.

Oh and right now we don't even have enough money to go and get some extra

groceries - so I went a little nuts this morning and called my hubby at

work hysterical - reaaaally helped the situation out, NOT! I took a xanax

and now I am desperately trying to figure out what I can do. I'm working as

a Service Coordinator but obviously not making a whole lot right now. I am

also selling on Ebay and Half.com - although that doesn't make me rich it

helps with extra expenses right now.

My SIL and I are having a yard sale, not this weekend but the weekend after

and ideally I would like to make a lot there - but how? I don't have tons of

extra stuff lying around to sell at this yard sale. I have boxed up lots of

stuff and have a couple of old couches and a chair along with some end

tables, but really I would like to earn a few hundred and I dont' see how

that can happen.

So suggestions and hugs? Anyone? HELP!!!!!!!! I need my friends and since I

have none in reality I need the few I have in cyberspace . I'm having a hard

time with this.

Bombard me with suggestions - I need them all!

Thanks,

Katrina

well, my first thought would be to see if you qualify for food stamps. here in

ny, you can get them if you're working but below their income level.

my second thought, about the vacation, is to see if there are any agencies that

would like to sponsor a trip to disney world. i know some people have had good

luck with easter seals, but i have never tried. i would also call disney world

personally and see if they have any discount rates for handicapped children. i

think wendy just took her daughter to sesame place for free, but i don't know

how.

that's all the thoughts i can muster at the moment :)

How do you get your tickets for half, and what would you write if you were

to email them? We're planning a trip to San Diego, and this would REALLY

help if we could get a break on tickets.

I earned a couple hundred in one day last summer with my yard sale. Find

the biggest ticket kids' things you don't use anymore -- car seats,

bouncers, baby gyms, toys, all that stuff -- my high-backed booster seat

went for $30 alone. And those items will bring people in. Outgrown kids'

clothes and adult clothes for $1 a grocery bag sell well too. I put out all

the videos I didn't want or need anymore for $2 apiece and the box was

emptied before lunch. Nobody bought music cassettes or fiction books, but

the non-fiction sold. Silverware went fast, believe it or not. So did

glasses - but not mugs. Recipe books sold. Board books sold.

Put signs up at all the intersections leading to your house. Be willing to

start the sale at 8am, even if that means setting up at 7. People do show

up that early! Haggle. Talk to people when they come, but just to say

hi -- then just be present and available. No talking on the phone, no

talking to each other.

You can do this!

when we moved 3 years ago we sold everything that

1.Had not been worn in 6 months

2.Was not an heirloom

3.Had not been on display in 6 months-excluding Holiday decor

we got rid of tons of stuff and made $500!

What I do is I check the email for disabilities usually they have something

written there about skipping in line etc. Then I email customer service and

explain that I have a child with a disability (autism) and that we are unsure

about her ability to tolerate large crowds for an extended period of time.

Then I explain how in the past I have gotton half price ticket for her at

Sesame Place and ask if they offer a program like that as the possiblity of

having to leave after a short time is a strong possiblity.

She does well for awhile and then overloads.

Oh also if you're doing two day sale if someone is thinking about buying

something but not sure tell them to come back tomorrow and then take 20% off.

Or if you're only doing one day after 12 cut prices and put up a sign to

that effect.

I think that may be a record! The only time we did that well was when we

were moving and we were selling stuff so we didn't have to move it LOL

I can give you the hugs, Katrina...

as far as making a little extra money...not sure, hon. sorry.

Where is the condo? Is it close to the beach?

My suggestion would be to look for things to do that don't cost any

money...the beach is perfect....

Good luck on this...I hope somone sends to some good suggestions.
