Guest guest
Hi ladies, I'm so far behind I'm never going to get caught up on messages so I'm having to do a mass delete. Sorry. I finally got up the courage (and energy) to go talk to my doctor about depression. After 's neuro-psych results I surrender. I need help. Anyway, the doc gave me a perscription for Lexapro. Is anyone taking this one? Is it helping? (I know it can be a few weeks to a month before I start feeling any better.) Are you having any major side-effects? Minor side effects? Guest guest
Nope, I'm on Effexor. However, be forwarned, you can also experience effects from the first tablet you take until your body adjusts to the med. Sue

Guest guest
Tina, I take 20 mg of lexapro a day. The starting dose is 10 mg. I did not have any side effects. It took a couple of weeks to feel a difference. At 20 mg I feel much better than I have in a very long time but I think it still needs to be increased. I have tried prozac, zoloft and xanax and have seen the best results with lexapro. The pych had me start with 5 mg and after a week increase to 10 to avoid any " major " side effects and to see if there would be any. Good luck! I hope it helps. > Hi ladies, I'm so far behind I'm never going to get caught up on > messages so I'm having to do a mass delete. The doctor gave me 3 sample packs with 10 mg tablets. I'd like to break them in half for the first few days because I have to do a lot of driving during the day and he said the most common side effect was dizziness. I've been fighting a major allergy attack, I don't need to be any dizzier than I already am. Problem is the tablets are so small I don't think I can break them in half. I'm going to wait until I get home from work this afternoon to try it. That way if I get too dizzy to drive I can always call the schools and have the kids ride the bus home instead of going and picking them up. Guest guest
This is exactly what I was going to suggest. Also, I take mine before I go to bed. That way if there was any side effects at least I am already finished for the day. , SAHM to Dakota, 7, HFA Jakob, 22 months, dev delays, eval today!! > Tina, > > Check in the pharmacy area of WalMart, K-Mart, > etc..and find a pill slicer...you line the pill up in > it and close it down and the little sharp blade makes > a neat slice. Guest guest
Try to use a razor blade to cut them if you don't have a pill splitter. Sue
Guest guest
I started mine at night too, then switched to mornings after my system was used to it. Guest guest
My doctor tried me on Lexapro and I did not do well on it. He put me on Lexapro at night and some other med in the morning. After starting both I started getting insomnia my doctor did not think it was the Lexapro so he had me take just the Lexapro. He then gave me a sleeping pill short term. Whenever I tried to stop taking the sleeping pill and just take the Lexapro the insomnia would come back. I just stop taking all of it. Almost immediately the insomnia went away. (Gee wonder why?!? Insomnia is a listed side effect of Lexapro). I am doing okay right now, but my wife was just put on Lexapro. Let's see how she does! So far I'm not having any problems. I'm going to try the 10 mg on Sunday when I'm off work and don't have to drive. Tina

I'm Tina (we have 2 Tina's on the list) I have 3 kids. 's 11 and is autistic and mentally retarded too. Sami is almost 10, gifted and as NT (neurologically typical) as a child can get. is 7, recent eval from the the neuro- psychologist puts him in the mildly mentally impaired range, with some significant loss of feeling in his right hand due to seizures and high seizure meds from 1 to 5 1/2 years old. I've been trying to catch up on posts. I hope the Risperdol works for Micki. I did a little internet research on Lexapro and saw that insomnia was one of the side effects. That one concerns me. I certainly don't need any less sleep than I'm already getting. : / Tina
