Guest guest
My son received his band on Tuesday and wore it 23 hours on Friday. When I took it off for cleaning his forehead was very red and I left it off all night. It's still very pink and looks very dry, almost calius like on his forehead. Is this normal? I dont want the red area to blister so not sure if I should put the helmet back on or put some lotion on the red area? Any advise would be great. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Britney-- I can't be certain, but is sounds like what we experienced when we first got Merrick's band. Did he sleep on his tummy by chance? That's what Merrick would do, and so that exasberated it. With Merrick, we were concerned that it was skin breakdown due to the helmet rubbing (it was pretty loose at first and when he laid on his back and kicked, it wouls shift quite a bit). I was freaked out, beause I didn't want him to have skin breakdown and be out of it for weeks--oh and of course it happened on a Saturday. So, we did an on-off schedule for the duration of the weekend and my husband took him into CT on Monday. We found out that it was heat rash. We were told to use hydrocortisone cream (I believe less than 1%) and take off the helmet to wipe his head down from time to time...even if it didn't appear that he was sweating. My hubby had them shave a pinch off the front since we were not convinced it was heat rash. We were wrong though, because that fixed the issue. If it seems to be heat rash, you could give that a try, and maybe make an appointment next week just to get things checked out. H. Guest guest
Call the ortho. It may need to be adjusted. Don;t put the band on until you've talked to the ortho,. Also, we were told Hydrocortisone cream was good for chaffing. HTH!
