Guest guest
Hi, does anyone know how long a child is infectious with chicken pox? DS is due to go to a party on Saturday which will be attended by a child whose spots started last Saturday. Really don't fancy DS getting chicken pox right now as I am 27 weeks pregnant and can't face being couped up all week with a bored and poorly toddler! TIA for any advice. Kate AFAIK Chicken Pox is infectious before the spots appear (helpful, eh) and until the last spot has crusted over and dried up. Can be 2 weeks or more if a serious case, but DS's spots had dried within a week last time he had it, thank goodness. That was a very mild dose, his first time lasted 2 weeks. Contrary to popular belief you can catch Chicken Pox as often as you like, though it's usually milder second and subsequent times. Adults who had CP as a child can succumb to the same virus as " Shingles " which presents as a rash around the middle and an aching body. Adults who have never had CP can still be carriers and pass it on to others. CP didn't make my DS miserable at all, he loved having spots and was sad when they went, but he was incredibly fractious the few days before the spots appeared - both times - it's all so easy to understand why with hindsight. Kate>>>>> Chicken pox are infectious for up to 3 weeks BEFORE spots appear and then until spots have dried up/crusted over.. can take a long time but most children take about a week for this to happen. When dd1 had Cp she got them on the Thursday and by the Sunday week after she did not have a spot to be seen anywhere and she was COVERED in them.. Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already.
