Guest guest
and everyone else's first LP / ? I have never bought an LP, but my very first 45rpm was " Please Mr Postman " by the Carpenters. It has " Masquerade " on the B side, and I still have it - I know every word off by heart, as I do most Carpenters records. When I bought it, it cost me 25p (weeks of saving up I recall) and we lived in Writtle, a little village on the outskirts of Chelmsford. Ahh, memories...listening to it now reminds me of sitting in our dining room, age about 8, eating " Discos " , disc shaped crisps in Salt'n'Vinegar flavour! I can still taste them now ....MMMMMM! Also, I remember being in the back of my dad's light blue van, listening to " Those were the days, my Friend, we thought they'd never end " , we didn't have seat-belts, or even seats, we used to pinch the sofa seat pads and scoot around in the back on them!! Crazy to think of it now with DS safely strapped in to a car seat, unable to move at all! Ruth

Guest guest
> and everyone else's first LP / ? first record was Special Brew by Bad Manners. First LP was Ska'n'B also by bad manners. Still got the LP (and still like it). I say *first* because they were the first that I *bought*. I can remember lots of earlier music not chosen, but loved (to varying degrees) in no particular order (of time or preference) steeleye span, abba, roger whittiker, baron knights, ph and...technicolour dream coat (sis and I learnt the score by heart), dave swarbrick, radio 3. Nowadays I spend more and more time listening to radio 3 and 4 (although I still buy and listen to recordings). I am becoming re-aquainted with some lovely R3 post midnight programming since dd was born. Guest guest
> and everyone else's first LP / ? Again, I used to buy singles when I was a teen in the sixties. They cost six and thruppence each. My first ever single was by Hayley Mills and was called " let's get together " . I think I was 12 and she wasn't much older, if at all. I bought all the early Shadows records cos I was in love with Jet their base guitarist, and then later on he split up with the Shads and made some wonderful hits with the drummer, Tony Meehan. Amazingly enough, at my gym a few years ago, I met and befriended Tony Meehan's daughter Siobhan (I forget her surname, who is part of a band called Mono. Their hit " life in Mono " was the playout music in the movie " Great Expectations " (the new version). Ruthie

Guest guest
Oh blimey! Soul, I'm afraid - but my Mum bought it as a surprise (and taped it first to listen to in the car - surprise for whom??). Mind you, I'm not sure the first one I bought would have been any better - either Toni Basil (hmm.) or Kate Bush, which I'd not be so icked about!! Harder question: what's everyone else's *favourite* album from their past? (must be >2 years old!) Vicki > and everyone else's first LP / ? First time I heard it was on Venture Scout Camp, in a dark tent with lots of good friends - and lots of batteries for the tape player! LOL! Incidentally DH was there too...... we were 16 and 21, and he was sooo handsome... Ruth

I loved him for years - he was terribly unfashionable even then - most of my friends were into Bros at the time. I wanted to marry him and have his babies <sigh> closest I got was handing him a rose at a small concert in a club in Windsor. <double sigh> Hannah, 27 Mum to Bethany 7, Lawrence 5 1/2, Verity 3, Alfie 8 months Visit me on the web at :- http://hannahshome.20m.com
