Another friend has spent the whole weekend trying to perfect a magicians hat cake - I have a feeling that she must have found it on the Internet somewhere (it was all in cup sizes). She is still struggling but thinks she might have perfected it! The first two attempts were not very successful. Or could a nice spiders web cake do? or a ghost? or perhaps a plain cake with spectacles on it, a cat, a train, a wizards hat etc......! Any bright ideas can't find a ready made and brain is shrinking with fear. As you haven't much time, I would suggest you plain ice a cake (maybe in purple or other suitable colour) cut out some glossy pictures of HP from a laminated magazine and stick them on with icing, and scatter sugar strands or stars if you can find/make some all around. Even adding some sparklers to make a magical effect would look stunning in a darkened room. HTH Ruth

Guest guest
Thanks Sue but we don't have a Sainsbury. Think I've worked out what to do... chocolate cake, green writing and sugar paste broomsticks etc. Caroline Deprived of Jersey > > Sainsburys have a Bake HP biscuits kit. Guest guest
Or a dark chocolatey cake with a Hedwig owl on the top? Decorated with various magic type symbols around the side? Nice bits of purple maroon and yellow decorations to make it more of a visual feast? Car Re: HP ideas > Caroline wrote: > > Help. Guest guest
HP ideas > Help. Fran wants a Harry Potter cake for her birthday on Friday. I did a hippo once by making an 8 and 6 or 7 inch sponge. I cut a curved piece out of the larger sponge so the two circles overlapped and added paste icing ears, eyes and paws. I suspect it would form a even better owl silhouette. (We made the big cake with cherries and the small one with out, much to the delight of then fussy sil's step son). Guest guest
I've just emerged from the building site which is currently my house to ask an HP related question. DS1 is going to a fancy dress party end of the month which is HP themed - he wants to go as ----- the Hungarian Horntail !!!!!!! Having just reread the relevant section of HP4 - I'm just beginning to panic a little. I've always made the children costume for fancy dress (including a ladybird, a bat, a spider and a fairy princess) I'm just not sure where to start here. This is made more difficult by the fact that my own sewing machine is currently not accessible so I will have to borrow one - it's never the same with a 'strange' sewing machine. Anyone got any suggestions - for the costume or sites with ideas?? Claire Lister Mum to 8, 6, Kate 3 and

If you do a search on Harry Potter costume or HP party or HP Hungarian Horntail on google, you will find loads of sites with ideas - not all of them practical, but worth a look.
