bad week ( long therapeutic moan)

On Wednesday I went into the local hospital (first mistake - noone in

their right minds voluntarily goes there) for an elective daycase

laparotomy (ie general anaesthetic, in for 4 hours, out by 5pm with a

gassy tum and a stitch). first thing I knew was coming round in recovery

30 mins after I should have been back home to be told, oh there's been a

big problem, we had to cut you open and you have to stay in, and the

theatre sister walked off. 11/2 hours later ( which I spent in a semi

drugged state wondering if I had cancer - I had a precancerous teratoma

removed 15 years ago) the registrar wondered up from theatre to tell me

that she had managed to shove a large metal implement through my uterine

wall and cause a rupture, that I was stitched up in layers, and have a

large caesarean type wound. So I spent a few days languishing in the

hospital from h*** with 4 little boys at home, one of whom breastfeeds

all night so daddy was having a rough time ( he's been a star btw - the

daddy that is) having told the boys I would be back by teatime the same

night. I now can't drive ( so that's all our half term trips up the

river), can't lift (eg Phil into high chair, hay for horses), can't swim

(risk of infection) for what seems like weeks, am very sore hobbling

about like I'm 90+ and VERY grumpy and hacked off. And I have 2

birthdays this week and am missing 6 replies to the 8 year old's party

as wasn't around at school at the end of the week to chase replies -

ggrr.

manage to mess things up like that? and what a terrible way to tell you -

hope it hasn't left you traumatised :(

Be kind to yourself.

.. I am so sorry...yesterday my head was so full of the

engagement I couldn't even think about reading your moan, but this

morning I read it...and I am totally shellshocked. Is there any

system of compensation? Hospitals shouldn't be allowed to get away

with gross negligence like this.

If this was the USA they could expect an immediate lawsuit. Mind you,

when my mother (now a completely paralysed and brain damaged stroke

victim) was still well(ish) she went into the Royal Free to have her

gall bladder removed and woke up with a broken pelvis. The hospital

maintained it was a spontaneous fracture. (Yea right). I was so angry

I wanted to sue, but how could I take a hospital the size of that one

to court and have a chance of success?

I hope you have some kind of peace of mind at the end of all this

.

So sorry to hear that .

But take care, and make sure you rest - absolutely NO lifting etc -

don`t be afraid to ask for help.

With best wishes

Oh how awful :((((((( And in your delicate female

areas as well. I can’t believe they messed up that badly on

a little(-ish) outpatient thing. No wonder the NHS is

always running out of money...

Get well soon, but don’t try to rush it. Get lots of help

in and lie about eating bonbons as much as you can.

Oh .

How awful.

I am shocked! It just makes matters worse that they dealt with it so

badly - you would have thought when they do a mistake you would get

sympathy, special treatment, perhaps even offers of help at home.

I am so glad you are starting to recover.

,

That really is a bad week!

I dunno how a woman who mucks out horses in labour/ after giving

birth (can't remember which it was) is going to do lying about eating

bonbons (Phyllis' excellent prescription) and recovering, but I hope

you'll find a way.

Oh sh*t - what an awful thing to happen.

Not that it does much good - but I hope you're complaining to the

Chief Exec of the Trust.

Hope you recover soon, tho' what bad timing with half term - not much

rest there then.

Poor you. (((HUGS)))
