Ante-natal care teams

Hi,

I wonder if any of you can advise me as to what I can expect when I

move. I am hoping for a home birth and I am living in Guildford at

the moment until I finish my nursing degree in May, when I will be

moving back near my parents' home in Hereford, at which time, I

will hopefully be (if all goes to plan ) about five months pg. What

can I do about antenatal care? Will they let me register with a GP

nearer home so I can have the same team of midwives all the way

through my pregnancy, or will they make me have one team until I move,

and another after I move?

I hope you can advise me as I'm very keen to know what's likely to

happen.

Thanks in advance,

ClareK

I would guess you would have to swop when you move, but as you see midwives

much more frequently towards the end of pregnancy there would be plenty of

chance to get to know them.

I live right in the top corner of Gloucestershire about 1 mile from the

borders of Herefordshire and Worcestershire and am a member of Malvern NCT

(which also covers Ledbury in Herefordshire). As far as I'm aware home

births don't raise many objections in this area and know people in all of

these counties who's babies were born at home.

My daughters homebirth was booked through the midwives attached to my

Herefordshire GP. However, my antenatal care and her birth were carried out

by the nearest Gloucestershire community midwives (something to do with

money and hospital transfers). Anyway they were all great and seemed really

pleased to have a homebirth to attend or sad to have to let their neighbours

have the opportunity.
