New US baby niece!!

Just got told my SIL in Chicago had a little baby girl last night (it

was due 10 days ago)!!

My brother - the eternal bachelor - sounds thrilled to bits!!

Thanks to those of you who gave advice on birth US style - in the end

SIL and DB wrote a 5-page birth plan, took it to hospital to discuss

it with the doctors, and got told off for wanting all the wrong

things (and 'why hadn't they asked for midwife care to start with').

So three weeks ago they scoured Chicago for hospitals with midwife

care who would take them so late in the process (just days really

before the due date) and thankfully found one - a Swedish hospital

not too far away.

Now I am dying to hear how it all went... but main thing is they

sound happy and I've got a brand new baby niece!

Congratulations to you and your family Karina.. Any name decided on yet (one of

my big passions ;o) )

Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama

& expecting a Christmas delivery...

My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you

start.

So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake.

I feel better already.

She's called Dahlia!!!

Not quite sure how to pronounce it yet, with a Norwegian Dad and

Lebanese mum, living in the US, there are many options!

Does anyone know what the name means?

its a flower,..... always been Day-lee-ah in our gardens!

no idea if it has another meaning (or pronunciation when used as a

name for that matter)

Didn;t Bertie Wooster have an Aunt Dahlia? (to go with his Aunt

Agatha...)

I think a Dahlia is a flower, and a lovely one at that :)

It's a flower isn't it? I pronounce it Day lee ah, but that might be

my German mother's bastardisation of it!

I used to know an Israeli Jewish lady (as opposed to standard british of

eastern european origin jewish lady) whose name was Dalia - when I asked her

what it meant she looked at me all puzzled and said " It's a flower! " ... so

if I were you I'd assume the same!

And yes, Angi, Dahlia was his good and deserving Aunt, unlike Agatha who ate

broken bottles and wore barbed wire next to the skin.

My uncle's partner is Dar-lia - not sure how it's spelt. They live in

Canada.
