Can anyone help?

Ben (3) has been throwing up since Sunday and I'm not sure whether to take

him to Dr or not.

Briefly, he has no temperature, rash etc. Occasionally complains of 'sore

tummy'

but this doesn't seem linked to the vomitting episodes. He ate very little

(some bread and butter and drinks) on Sunday and was sick first thing Monday

morning. Only water until about 9pm then some bread and Rice Crispies (tiny

amount of milk) - sick again during the night. Same pattern followed on

Tuesday and again on Wednesday but without the Rice Crispies and milk.

He is sleeping a lot but always asking for food and drink.

I'm not sure whether just to starve him even longer (and put up with his

screaming for food) or take him to Dr. When he was younger he had a few

problems with weight-gain etc and one Dr at the surgery told me I was turing

into a neurotic mother (I think he meant it nicely in comparison to how laid

back I was with the others) which always sticks in my mind when I consider

taking him to Drs now...

I'd either phone the surgery and ask to speak to the doc or practice

nurse or ring NHS direct. Or pop into the pharmacy.

You'll probably be told either to get him down to the doc's or leave it

for 24-48 hours. Either way, you're armed with the 'I've already done

this' when you need an appointment and enter the usual discussions with

the receptionist. And when you see the doctor, again you'll already

have had some advice.

Well, personally I would go to the Drs - either make an appointment,

or ask to see a nurse when you get there - the Dr will see him if

need be too. Vomitting for this long can't be right, he may well

have a problem which needs investigating with tests etc - be

persistant and get to the bottom of this before it becomes a regular

problem.

Ann, I'd say if you're debating whether to or not, then do it. It's

better to come away feeling a bit silly over nothing than to find he

has a problem that needs help.

And I'd say 3-4 days is long enough for an unexplained bug to hang

around.

Hope he gets better soon.
