I just always wondered how one would get a nickname like Putter.

Then again I have a Toad and a Worm....

Welcome! I am Jacquie H, married to Jeff. We live in California with our 3

children. Greggory is HF autistic and doing great! He is getting ready to finish

up first grade and move onto 2nd grade next fall. (my baby! where does the time

go??) Alec is 5 yrs old and autistic, bp , adhd and probably ODD. He is at home

with me for now. We are still having trouble finding a suitable placement for

him next year. ugh. Then Miss Yessenia. She is 10 months old and a real stinker!

She just started waving Hi and Bye bye! She also says Hi now too. We are

watching her closely. You will love it here. Alec was on risperdal and it really

did help him. But he gained too much weight. He took it in liquid form.

New to the group (daughter newly diagnosed)

Hello all,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I am the daddy of an eight year old

daughter, Micki, that was recently diagnosed with Autism and Mental

Retardation. It took us YEARS to get this diagnosis, which we agree

with. I cannot believe how much pushing and pulling and yelling we

had to do to get to where we are now. The diagnosis we had before

was Cerebral Palsy. Her neuro left it at that, but said that she is

a puzzle that is not put together yet.

Anyway we have got more done in the past month than we had since we

adopted her four years ago. We got an appointment with the JFK

Center for Autism in Denver. (We live in Colorado Springs) They gave

us the results a lot quicker than normal and got us in touch with

their Developmental Peditician. We went to see him because of some

raging and behavioral problems. He is going to try Micki on

Risperdal and I have read a lot on this and am really looking forward

to trying it.

My wife and I are about at the end of our ropes. Micki's rages have

been really bad lately. They usually last at least 30 minutes and

have gone on for as much as a couple hours. It makes it really hard

to get sitters even if it is just grandma.

With the Resperdal I have no problem with the weight gain as Micki

has grown 4 or 5 inches in the past year and has not gained any

weight. She is constant movement, even when she is asleep.

Anyway, if you have gotten this far let me ask a question. Micki has

problems with meds. With her anti-seizure meds we have tried

sprinkles, liquid and chewables. Chewables seem to work best, with

bribes. I know Resperdal does not come in chews, does anyone know

how well the tablets go if they are chewed?

I use a motal and a pestal to smash the pills, and then we mix them

with juice in a medicine dropper, and he takes this fine.
