Guest guest
Closest call I've ever had in 49 years (38 of which have been in Kansas-Tornado Central) A tornado hit here at about 7:30 PM central time and damaged a bunch of homes about 3 miles west of us. The warnings were great-about 40 minutes out and sirens went off two different times. At tornado time, the local tv channel broadcasters went off the air to take cover (I have NEVER seen them do that!) and they said a tornado was on the ground at 33rd and Iowa. I live at about 27th and Iowa. I was scared shitless! And just guess where my dh was-outside filming! Idiotic men! They showed a guy on tv who was outside filming when he realized the tornado was on top of him. He hid in an outside storm tube that takes care of the overflow of water in rains. He looked happy to be alive. This is the second night of tornadoes in the area in the last week. Too close for comfort! Leggs

Guest guest
I was really thinking about you when I heard it hit Lawrence. Last week, I had to call all my Leavenworth friends to see if they were ok. My sister lives in Carl Junction, MO. and it was hit too. Luckily all the people I know didn't lose property or worse. Scary stuff for sure! AM very glad you were missed too. My hubby would have been out with the camera too. AUGH MEN. I'm glad the TV crew was a good example to the viewers. You're right, I've never seen that happen either. My heart goes out to everyone being hit by tornados this year. OKC was hit yet again in the same place it was four years ago. Seeing we had such a quiet year last year, maybe mother nature is coming back to make up for it. > Closest call I've ever had in 49 years (38 of which have been in > Kansas-Tornado Central) A tornado hit here at about 7:30 PM central > time and damaged a bunch of homes about 3 miles west of us. Guest guest
> A tornado hit here at about 7:30 PM central > time and damaged a bunch of homes about 3 miles west of us. > Don't you love this time of year, Leggs? We are about 10 minutes south of , which got hit very hard around 5 pm. Worst part was that it all came up so fast that you didn't even see it until it was way too exciting...so I'm dropping Elaine off at ballet around 4:30 pm and looking at the sky thinking, " maybe I should check the TV when I get home...this looks like it could get intense " . Blue skies out one window, tornado grey out the other... I'm watching local news this morning to see if the theatre where they are supposed to have the ballet recital this weekend is damaged. Gald you are all okay. My closest call was when I was a kid in AR...not quite on the ground tornado blew our locked front door open, split a huge oak tree across the street. But I was too young to really understand the potential then... Raena

Guest guest
Glad it didn't hit your home!! And I recall driving through Arizona heading right towards a tornado. My father was perfectly calm; he said it would be gone before we got to where it was which was true, but it still seemed loony to me.
