Guest guest
I can't remember our US dentist saying anything about flossing. They have a thorough cleaning here every six months with the hygienist, and the only problem has been plaque along the gumline. I've bought little y-shaped sticks that are like a toothpick on one end, and with a piece of floss across the prongs at the other end. The boys (9 and 7) do a quick scrape with the toothpick end and attempt to floss between 2 or 3 teeth. They aren't doing a thorough job (obviously), but they are getting used to the routine. They get fluoride treatment every six months, and have had their molars sealed. No cavities - yeah! Joyce Sharing rooms and dentists On another note - DS2 had a dental appointment today. A general check (this being the first time at a dentists since we moved to Aus), and a check on a front tooth which suffered a knock at playtime. The tooth is OK, but he had an X-ray, a clean, and a fluoride application. The total bill was $280 (about 112 quid) - although I will be able to claim some (but not all) back through our health insurance - come back good old NHS. They have also recommended that he start flossing his teeth (he is nearly 7). Now our dentist in the UK never mentioned that they should start flossing at this age, and to be honest, I find it hard enough to floss my own teeth, and am not sure how a 7 year old will manage it, or how I can do it for him - any tips anyone?
