Guest guest
Just came back from a very successful foray to find a wedding dress for Zehava. There is an EXCELLENT service here in NW London for Jewish brides, a wedding dress loan service, but we wanted a new dress, not one previously worn. The service therefore buys new dresses, all suitably modest in style (high necks, long sleeves etc), sells them to us for about a third of the shop prices, the bride wears them once then donates them to the loan service. Zehava found a STUNNING new ivory dress with three crystal bands at the waist, another at the neckline, V sleeves with buttons. Worn with a crystal tiara and her red hair piled up, and a three layer veil,(new) she looks like a fairy princess. The whole lot together with a hooped petticoat, cost us 400 quid and will be returned the day after the wedding for use by other brides. Phew, one thing more off my list! She needs alterations done to the dress but that's not a problem. Ruthie
Guest guest
Wow - a great result. My wedding dress was a real saga and I had 9 months to sort one out, but that's another story! There is an EXCELLENT service here in NW London for > Jewish brides Oh wow!!! My sister has just announced her engagement and is planning on marrying late May next year. This weekend we have a big trip into London planned, specifically to try on dresses. We will start at Virgin Brides (as they have a big selection) and work on from there. Do you have to be Jwish to go this place. My (1st!) wedding dress came from Losners in Stamford Hill which I believe is also well used among the Jewish Community (although not so sure if they cater for the orthodox community?) Do you know it? In December we have to go and look for bridesmaids dresses. I am being Maid of Honour, her friend and my 2 darlings/horrors! Grace will be 3 1/2 and Emilie just 2 - what are we letting ourselves in for? My future BIL is so nice though, he wants the kids to come to the front of the church and hold their hands etc! Bet he will not be so pleased when they paly up on the actual day! Beverly
Guest guest
Sounds fabulous Ruthie - can't wait to see the pictures next year. My Mum made my wedding dress, which was a maternity one, seeing as how I was 7 months pregnant, and it was purple and gold - sounds hideous doesn't it - I might try and scan a picture later...... I dont know if you have to be Jewish if you are willing to buy a dress, but would she want to return it the next day to the loan service? Also would your sister really want such a modest dress, no flesh showing anywhere? They literally don't have any other kind except high necked and long sleeved ones. > My (1st!) wedding dress came from Losners in Stamford Hill which I > believe is also well used among the Jewish Community (although not so > sure if they cater for the orthodox community?) Do you know it? Yes I have been there looking for a dress for my last bride I think! As for bridesmaid dresses, one of my mother's nurses (filipino) has given me the name of a place in Finsbury Park which Zehava and I plan to visit tomorrow. It's called USA Fashion Co Ltd and its at 111 Fonthill Road N4 phone 020 7272 3992. I have no idea what's there but she assures me it has a large and reasonably priced selection.
