OT: Weight Loss Surgery and More

I had a doctors appointment today. We changed my meds from nothing for

depression because the paxil was making me looney to welbutrin. We talked about

my weight, well I brought it up. He has class and doesn't throw it in my face

over and over again. I mentioned looking at surgical options and found out

there is a man right in the same town that does Lap-Band proceedures. This is

less invasive then the open typical weight loss surgery. I'm highly considering

doing it. We talked about starting Meridia today but I don't want to change a

problem with my heart. Meridia is the same as one of the componets of

phentramine and phenflormine, which I was on 6 years ago.

I don't know. I think the surgery is a good idea. I need to be here and

healthy for my boys. Someone that understand them has to be alive to take care

of them

Am I nuts.

I've been denied for the RNY four times by my insurance. Currently I am

doing Atkins and losing some weight. I still plan to try for the rny

though. I have to wait for open enrollment in my dh's insurance in

Novemeber though. Then wait another three months. Grrrrrr. I still

definetely want to do this if I am not below 200 by open enrollment and that

is unlikely. I started at 294 at the beginning of February and I am down to

around 260 now, but it is getting a lot harder to stay true to the atkins

and I am having doubts about being able to lose such a large amount of

weight. I am supposed to be around 130, so that leaves me another 130 to

lose! I am on a few support groups for people who have had or are having or

considering the surgery and I also chat on spotlighthealth.com and I am

pretty immpressed with the success of the surgery (lap band, too). There

have been people with complications that seem immense, but even those people

have told me they would do it all over again. If you are truly considering

it, you should get talking to some people who have had the procedure.

Spotlighthealth is great. Good luck!!
