Guest guest
Kara, This is what I see in the pictures you posted. His ears seem to be at a different level (one higher than the other). There also seems to be some front bossing (front right) and the back right side of his head is flat. I don't know how old your son is, but if he is already rolling over, repositioning him might just be useless. Getting him in a band will most likely improve his condition. Also the sooner the better. Keep in mind that their head grows the most before they turn 9 months of age. It doesn't stop growing after that, but it grows slower. Don't wait too long and trust your own instinct. Guest guest
I looked at 's pictures, he is adorable! I do see the plagio - how old is he?? Have you been doing repositioning to keep him off of his right side? I am a big believer of early treatment - so, if I were in your shoes I would call the specialist and ask for a referral to either Cranial Technologies (CT) or Hanger or both and go and get an evaluation from these people as they are the ones who do the banding and they can give you measurements on your sons head and recommend a band or not. If were only 3 or 4 months I would say waiting another month would be ok - but I am guessing he is maybe 6 months or older? Good luck and keep us posted! Guest guest
Have him evaluated for tort. Tort and plagio go hand in hand so you'll want to resolve both. If he does have tort he'll probably be seen by a physical harpist for stretching and strengthening exercises 3 times a week for starters. There's some general ones you can do on your own, but it's best to get evaluated. The physical therapist will give you some exercises specific to your sons condition to do at home between visits too. This is good for insurance purposes as well because many want to see that you tried PT and repositioning before getting a band before they will approve payment. Every carrier is different of course so you'll have to look into your plan. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi Kara, I did take a look at 's pics, he is a cutie. I definitely see the plagio- it is the exact opposite of what my daughter's was like. If you would consider banding, I would definitely do so sooner than later. I know it is a tough decision, but once you decide to do it, the time flies by. My daughter, now 9 months, just finished 2 weeks ago. The earlier you start, the less time the kids usually have to wear the band because they are growing faster! I would definitely go for a consult to see how many mm or how severe the plagio is- they take different measurements of the head. Also if you wait too long, you may not get as much correction. I agonized over the decision and got upset about it, but once she got the band it never even phased her and it just became part of her. Now she is done and she won't even remember it!!! Good Luck!! Guest guest
HI Kara, I am sorry to hear about your job situation, I know the market right now is horrible :-( But I know if you go with a consult with Cranial Technologies, they may be able to do an evaluation and then wait until the job market gets a little better to actually get it. My daughter started when she was over 6.5 months. So you have time to still get great results, people on this board have banded at over a year with good results. It is good that you are aware of it though and can try to keep him off his prominent side as much as you can. Feel free to email me personally if you ever want to " chat " . Guest guest
Usually consultations are free, but I would call just to double check the specific location you are going to. Bands vary depending on what time you get, I believe Cranial Technology bands are 3,300- 3,600. We went to a local orthodist recommended by our pediatrician and we paid just under 2,000 out of pocket and we will get it back if I keep appealing and win with the insurance co- my fingers are crossed. > > > > > > > From: kara wallace <kara4j (DOT) com> > > > > Subject: Re: Re: son just diagnosed > 1/12/08 > > > > Plagiocephaly > > > > Date: Wednesday, January 14, 2009, 6:45 PM > > > > thank you for looking at them! joeys is 4.5 > months, > > > born > > > > 8/30. yes we are trying to keep him off his > right > > > side but > > > > i think after looking on the internet he > also has > > > > toricollis, so he likes his head on that > side. he has > > > > another doc appt on the 16th and joeys doc > said that > > > we will > > > > see by next month what to do about it, > thanks meg! > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > ____________ _________ _________ __ > > > > From: Meg <mdrewapnpgmail (DOT) > com> > > > > Plagiocephaly > > > > Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 6:30:11 AM > > > > Subject: Re: son just diagnosed > 1/12/08 > > > > > > > > > > > > I looked at 's pictures, he is > adorable!
