Yes, I have now spoken with the proud parents - and it IS meant tp

be 'Dahl-ia' rather than 'Day-lia'.

Her mum (SIL) is Lebanese and that's the way they would say it there,

plus of course the Dad is Norwegian - and although Dahlia is not a

name in Norwegian, 'Dahl-ia' is how we would pronounce it if it was.

('a's are always pronounced as in 'bar' rather than 'bare').

It's funny you mention Roald Dahl, as of course he was Norwegian

(!!!) and my father has already announced that to remember his new

granddaughter's name he has to think of Roald Dahl...

Also got some news on the birth, and SIL did indeed manage to have

a 'natural' labour (no c/s) and was very very happy that she had

changed hospital to the Swedish one in Chicago.

I think I did mention that they got thrown out of their original

hospital 2 weeks before the birth because of an 'unnacceptable' birth

plan!!! It contained things like wanting to try different positions

in labour, and wanting to avoid forceps... In the Swedish hospital

they got lots of midwife support, the baby was OP (as in Cindy

Crawford) and the 2nd stage took over 2 hours. It's questionable if

she would have been allowed to do this naturally in the original

hospital, as they seem to look for any excuse for an emergency c/s.

Also SIL is very tiny, and the baby wasn't!

Anyway, very happy it all went well.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I think this is absolutely

*outrageous* in 2001 - whatever hospital and whatever country - I mean

these are hardly radical requests to make about a labour are they? Is

there an NCT equivalent in the US or should we expand our range?!
