Guest guest
Ok, we took the kids to the library. I was able to pick up Speed of Dark (had the only copy not checked out in the system sent over) and Exiting Nirvana. Have a ton of books here to read now. Savannah got her own library card. She is so excited and checked out a ton of books. Cracks me up sort of because all but one book she checked out are information books. Everyone else checked out picture books and all. Cheyenee...that child...lol...checked out a bunch of Usborne board books that we don't have and like every duck book she could find. Dalton. Dalton. told him to leave his bear in the car. The man just doesn't get it sometimes. He is really patient with the kids and all (and we swear his has AS tendancies. He read the book Pretending to be Normal and said that he seen way to much of himself in that book) but he forgets that he needs to bend with the toys going in places with Dalton. He was in a strange place and just lost it. At least he didn't through a tantrum. He just sat there in the chair and said over and over in a monotone (a la Rain Man) " Where's my bear? It's lost. Where's my bear? It's lost. Where's my bear? It's lost. " And here is the really maddening thing. This was the ONE freaking time that he was speeking clearly where you could understand him. Most of his sentances sound like they are in some weird speech delayed other language. Is it June yet? Georga Visit my new web page at www.ubahbookshelf.com This tag line space for rent. Guest guest
Georga - Sounds like it was a good trip yet a frustrating trip at the same time. So, did you make him go get the bear and/or remind him, yet again, why Dalton should have been allowed to bring the bear in the library?? Love, prayers and heart hugs, Debbie (GA), Mom to Evan (4.5 y/o with ToF, RBBB, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asthma); (now a whole year old and HH and NT?); and my 3 angel babies whom I will finally see when God says it's time! 9:1-3 ============================================================ Date: 2003/05/10 Sat AM 10:03:04 EDT To: parenting_autism Subject: Library Trip ============================================================
Guest guest
Well, the library was a few mins to closing so I chose to carry him around while trying to help everyone else. UGH! I reminded that the bear goes with Dalton or next time he can deal with it. Georga Visit my new web page at www.ubahbookshelf.com This tag line space for rent. Guest guest
Doesn't sound like too bad of an excursion, but I would have made dh get the damn bear!! We go through this with Mark every time we go somewhere with the boys. always has to have something of his to carry with him. Mark always wants to fight him and make him leave it home or in the car. You really would think they would get it sooner or later, wouldn't you? Sue
Guest guest
Yea, you would think so. doesn't get it. I mean, I understand his logic of what would happen if something happened to the bear. It isn't like we could get a replacement bear. won the stupid thing before Dalton was a year old around Christmas from one of those toy machines with the claws. is really good at them. Got the bear for 50 cents. Not bad for a " full size " bear. It originally had a hat and a scarf. No idea where either is but it picked up a shirt this past Christmas. I mean there is a total meltdown if he can't find his bear and he won't go to bed without it and all so I understand the " what if we take it somewhere and it gets lost " bit. And then there is the thing that if he takes his bear than Sierra will want to take Gross in and Dakota will want to take Moose in and then we have all these animals to keep track of. However, Dalton can not function without the bear (who he has recently named Happy. I am not sure on the name only because he calls all the cats Happy. Maybe anything furry is happy?) Guest guest
always must carry something too. I never argue with him about it...in the Out of Sync child, the author argues that children with sensory integration issues often must carry something in their hands, almost like a defense against a world that is too much for them. I thought that was interesting. Maggie ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Guest guest
Maybe they are called happy because things with fur make HIM happy? We went through things like this with when he was little too. Mark had to drive an hour back to his mom's house because we left Papa Smurf there one night! Sue
Guest guest
Yea, I was thinking that about certain things being called Happy. The terror of a lost favorite toy. I remember when Gross got left outside over night (Gross was under the Little Tyke car and we didn't think to move it)... That was hell...
