Guest guest
My son, , has been in his Starband for just over a week. He's developed a little irritation on his forehead and there are several spots with broken skin. They are very small (a couple mm) and it does not look infected. We are only concerned about putting the helmet back on with that problem. Our orthotist said to get some neosporin cream, not ointment to put on and then continue to use the helmet. But all we can find in town is the kind with " pain reliever " added, lidocaine, I think. That stuff can be toxic, and all the pharmacists we talked to said not to use it on a baby. One of the local pharmacies is ordering the regular neosporin to come in tomorrow, but what can we use tonight? What about zinc cream? We are eager to put the band back on but obviously we don't want to aggravate the skin problem. Kansas
Guest guest
- I would just give your sons head a break tonight and start with the cream tomorrow. My daughter had a similar problem and after a day break and then starting on the cortisone cream it improved very quickly and we only missed very little time in the helmet in the grand scheme of things. I hope gets better quickly too! Good Luck! - Meg, mom to Lucy 6.5m, STARband grad 1/12/09 Milwaukee, WI > > My son, , has been in his Starband for just over a week. Guest guest
Just a few days ago my son broke out in the rash too. We put cortisone cream on once a day and it cleared up in a day and a half. I kept him out of the helmet till it cleared up. Good luck! - Cole is 7.5 months and been in his DOCband since 12/1/08From: Meg <mdrewapnp@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Tuesday, January 13, 2009 7:34:33 PMSubject: Re: doc says neosporin cream---we can't find it! - I would just give your sons head a break tonight and start with the cream tomorrow. Guest guest
Meg, Thanks for the quick reply. I think my son's skin looks a lot better now, so we are going to try the helmet again just for a few hours and then have a good check of it. You mentioned cortisone. I do have hydrocortisone cream in the house. Would that be helpful? I think the orthotist suggested it in case of irritation, but I'm not sure it's okay if there's broken skin. By the way, I also read your post on Lucy's graduation. That is wonderful! I am happy that you got through it so quickly and with such amazing results! We have had a similar timeline so far, but starting about a month later. 's tort is pretty much gone. For that all we had to do was position him appropriately with respect to his highly entertaining 3-year-old brother. We go to Hanger in Kansas City and also have a Starband. Our orthotist seems really good so far. He's been doing this for 13 years. Hopefully we can do as well as you! Congratulations! > > > > My son, , has been in his Starband for just over a week. Guest guest
- Our ped prescribed 2.5% cortisone cream for Lucy a few weks ago and she had a few small areas of broken skin - just apply a VERY thin layer and watch it carefully - it if looks like it is making it worse, stop. How big are the areas of broken skin?? If they are only small cracks it should be ok - if they are very large I would avoid the cortisone and just try a moisturizer like Eucerin, Aveeno, etc. Also, call the orthotist or your ped and get their professional opinion on using the cortisone on open skin areas. Thanks for the kind words! We are so happy to have her naked head. I missed kissing and snuggling with it. I hope has a quick change too! Good luck - Meg > > > > > > My son, , has been in his Starband for just over a week. He's > > > developed a little irritation on his forehead and there are several > > > spots with broken skin. Guest guest
I'm surprised you can't find neosporin! If there is somewhere that you are getting it tomorrow then wait. You don't want to have further break down of the skin causing an even longer period out of the band. Have you called the ortho? Guest guest
I haven’t posted much, but thought I would chime in --- I think you should use bacitracin, not Neosporin for little ones. One of the antibiotics in Neosporin is not so good for babies. Keep your eye on it so you don’t have more breakdown. Best wishes~ Cheri Will (7 months old) in Starband for 6 weeks; 9 mm plagio, right ear shift, facial assym.
