Guest guest
Oh Ruthie that so reminds me of the story my ex-boyfriend's mother used to tell of her time as Mrs Wedding Lists, Kendall's in Manchester. Most of her clients were rich Manchester Jewish and her impression of the mother of the bride saying " you don't vant an 8-place dinner service, you vant twelve. You gotta big 'ouse - you going to be having parties " (I'm sure you can imagine the accent!!!) had me in stitches! Still, hope they have fun! ps do tell, what's Zehava's dream ring like? Jewellery coveter extraordinaire that I am... Anneliese and Toddler Tim Re: Dahlia > A day late - Ruthie - hope Yeshaya is feeling better today - sorry so > late but am not managing to get to the 'puter much at the moment That's OK. I don't know to be honest. Dov spoke to him yesterday and said he seemed fine, Moishi invited him to a bachelor bash last night and he was there, so I hope he is feeling happier. He is going to Tavya and Dov for Sabbath so a good chance to really have a good talk about Yeshivah. Zehava has been looking at engagement rings; stones and mounts separately. Trouble is, madame had some very fancy ideas of what madame wanted for her engagement ring, and the in laws obviously had a budget. She will either have to rethink her " dream ring " , go for a smaller stone, or forget all the baguettes she likes in the mount. As the song goes, something has to give! Dov's mother is being an angel today; taking Zehava to in the west end to do her wedding list. Doing wedding lists are my idea of a nightmare, Sharon ' idea of a fun way of spending an afternoon.! Takes all sorts! Yes, that's DOV's mother, not Moishi's. Ruthie

Still, hope they have fun! I must say here that most rich Manchester Jewish of my acqaintance, unless they are originally European/Eastern European refugess, sound just like Mancunians, and don't say " vant " ! Not offended, but the stereotype Eastern European " Jewish accent " doesn't hold water much these days, as most of us are born in our host countries and speak like they do. It's the older generation who are still ex refugees who still talk like that! eg my late father (who you can read about on my web site http://www.ruthiepearlman.com)who came across in March 1939 by the skin of his teeth, talked in a Czech accent, as does his only surviving brother, my indomitable Uncle Bertie. > ps do tell, what's Zehava's dream ring like? Jewellery coveter > extraordinaire that I am... It has shoulders with 14 baguettes in (lying side by side horizontally), and the central diamond standing proud in a claw setting. It's very dazzling. We'll see what she gets in the end! You love jewellery too? I'm a jewelleryaholic, I confess! Ruthie

In Jerusalem, where we entertain large numbers at Sukkot time, I need at least 20 of each item! Ruthie
