Guest guest
DS1 did a drama workshop today aimed at " young people over the age of 8 " . He so looked forward to it, filled in his own form, very keen. Unfortunately he has not been too well this week and has had a cough, last night he had a sore throat, but I dosed him with Calpol type stuff and cough medicine and today he felt well enough to go on the workshop. I left him and then realised that he was the only boy, must have been 20 girls and him. Poor child he said he had enjoyed himself but would not like to go again next year! It might have been an older boys dream but not my 8 year old! Are all girls budding drama queens at that age? where were all the boys? Guest guest
>Are all girls budding drama queens at that age? where were all the boys? Probably being sent to rugby or soccer by dad. Sorry for the stereotype but most parents at my DD's school won't let their sons do 'ballet' even though it's more music and movement. There are no after school clubs offered at this stage (Reception) specifically/more for boys but a lot of the parents (mainly the dads if mums are to be believed) that won't let their sons dance. At parents' evening I found out that DD isn't playing happily with the other children in her class. Closer questioning based on previous experience found that, yes, she is very happy playing Lego with the boys....!! Today one of the mums told me she's been happily playing kissy-kissy with the boys too!!!!!!! Must be her advanced development (early tooth loss!!) that makes her a novelty! -- Sue, very much tongue in cheek

I don't want him to do a course every week as he already does swimming on Saturdays and DH plays golf in the afternoon. The only group around here would be at the Theatre in York on Saturday mornings and that is 18 miles away. I am sure he would enjoy it and drama is one of the things that has been lacking at our school, although that is improving. Your group sounds really fun. I just thought that it would be a nice day in the holidays. I think DS1 was feeling rather grotty anyway though and he has not even been for his swimming lesson today. Guest guest
IME, as a drama club nerd, it's mostly girls all the way through. Then, any boys that take part have to be very self-confident because, at least in the one-horse town, backwards town where I grew up, they get taunted as homosexuals. Which is why any males with any talent at all tend to take off for NY or LA (or at least Chicago) ASAP. So, later on, yes, it will be a good way for him to meet girls, but he'll have to be very confident Phyllis __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Just realized in my last message that I said boys were taunted. They weren't taunted by those of us IN the drama club, but by the football team, etc. __________________________________________________

Playbox Theatre are quite widespread I think, and have links with the States (Santa for one I know of) from where other likeminded youths (Children and adults alike) come to stay with our families and take in our shows, it's wonderful. I'll find out where they all are next time I'm in (tomorrow night - Circus Club ) My birthday is 1st December (1965) - my Mum's is December 31st (1924) (which my Dad used to refer to as the " Dirty Worst " ). Update on DH - he's coming home on the 27th November now!! Ruth
