You can register with the Telephone Preference Service to stop getting

these kind of calls. Have buried the details under a pile of papers

somewhere but will dig them out if someone wants me to. Of course I

have just registered my old telephone number which BT unhelpfully put

in the book under DH's business telephone number so will now have to

register new number!

Though TPS takes several months to work and still doesn`t screen all

calls. However I guess it has gut 90% of them. As soon as I get an

unwanted call (i.e. who can`t pronounce my name, is calling between

teatie and bedtime, and there is a lot of other tele-chat in the

background) I ask politely where they got my name from (after all, it

could be someone enquiring about NCT), then explain about TPS. Usually

they put the phone down immed or apologise.

Yeh, why do the telesales people call at that time? I suppose it is

to catch people just coming in from work but there must be some

mothers amongst them who could point out that you are never going to

sell anything to a mother with two whingeing over-tired hungry

children to cater for!
