Guest guest
DH is self-employed and we have quite a rare surname so our " personal " telephone number is listed in the book under my maiden name (well was until recently when BT in their wisdom listed it under DH's surname but that's another story!). I never use my maiden name so when people call me " Mrs " I know they are selling something and just say straight away " No thanks, I don't want what you're selling! " and hang up. The comment about Madam and brothels reminds me of the time the District Judge at Maidstone was a woman, Judge . We have to call District Judges " Sir " but it totally nonplussed me when I came across her, I found it very hard to call her " Madam " as it sounded like she ran a brothel, and " Ma'am " was a bit too Royal!
