Guest guest
Did anyone read the article in the express yesterday by Judy Finnegan (od and Judy!). She basically said that the NCT made her feel that the only choice given to her at antenatal lessons was that she must go through natural childbirth without pain relief, and she was made to feel a failure. She goes on to say that a breast feeding councellor came to see her to make her breast feed her twins (rather than help and give advice). She says quote " ..I felt horribly guilty. and dont even mention my failure to breastfeed my twins simultaneously (a la Kitzinger). The NCT even sent a counsellor to lecture me when I found I couldnt get both to latch on at the same time and I wept and wept in humiliation. " She later goes on to say quote " Please please dont let the politically correct lobby blind you to what is more imnportant... " She doesnt mention anything about what the NCT does actually do, support, give advice, advise you of your options. Its such a bad piece of publicity, and I think as members, we need to email or write to the express, and voice our concerns. Judy is after all, an icon to most mums at home, and is known by most people in the country. If she criticies NCT, then its got to have a detremental effect on membership and support! Outraged! Guest guest
I didn`t see the article, but it sounds like she needs an update from NCT. how about inviting her to house, to show what can be achieved on a shoestring? Surestart initiatives, gvt campaigns, etc - must have all moved on since she was a new mum - 20? yrs ago. I nkow it has moved on in the 10 yrs I have been a member! Perhaps one day she will have reason to be glad that the NCT is around for her grandchildren, whenever they start arriving.
