Guest guest
They turned on me. Remember the forum where they were discussing me and Boone? They were totally thrilled, then some little shit who claims to have an AS parent pissed me off and all hell broke loose. http://www.williamgibsonboard.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc & s=5006046771 & f=2866012481 & m=1576\ 066703 & r=9626043613#9626043613 Oh well, at least I have a place to beat people up who deserve it and I won't care if I'm banned. Guest guest
UGH!!! That pissed me off just to read it all. If we do not advocate for our children who the hell will? What are we supposed to do? Lock all autistic kids in an instutition where they are out of sight out of mind and rest of society gets to pretend that they don't exist? Would that make autism or anything else easier to live with? I may regret saying this later, but everyone who claims that they understand when they don't, and all, I hope they get " plagued " (as they see it) with a disabled child. Chances are they don't handle it very well. When Savannah came along I didn't know anything about autism. I had never met an autistic person. I had seen Rain Man but sadly the simialirities didn't click for me and I spent years without even a clue as to what could be wrong. Now I find that people come to me with questions. I can't always give them the answers but I can help. Georga Visit my new web page at www.ubahbookshelf.com This tag line space for rent. Guest guest
didn't have AS parents -- not for certain. He's obviously diagnosed them himself. If he'd been raised *knowing* his parents had asperger's, the oldest he could be is about 20; he writes with the voice of someone older than that. But it's very unlikely asperger's would have been dx'd in adults directly after the discovery of Asperger's papers and journals in the 70s, and even more unlikely that adults in the 70s would have sought out such a new diagnosis for THEMSELVES. My guess, given what little I've read from him? He had cold and distant parents for some kind of reason (and we know there are thousands of reasons people can be shitty parents) and he latched on to the dx of Asperger's as an explanation to himself for that upbringing, allowing him to resent/pity one particular group of people and make himself feel better. Guest guest
Eegads Sissi. You remind me of a comment once made to me by my sister: " You have a talent for attracting wierdos. " Sorry things went south. And I agree that they have no right to discuss your life like that. No one likes to be 'studied'. Guest guest
What was the original discussion about in there anyway? I assume it had to do with Boone -- In parenting_autism , Moretuna <moretuna@y...> wrote: > Eegads Sissi. Guest guest
Sissi I read what you wrote about mentally ill children and their parents. It is so true and broke my heart at the same time. Hugs to you also
Guest guest
And I be the first on to say that autistic people aren't mentally ill. You have to talk differently to F & %ing idiots. I guess I got a little melodramatic, but what the heck. I'm actually a hell of a lot more of a martyr than I let them know. If they only knew what our lives are really like. These are a bunch of (mostly) young highly-educated yuppie-types -- or what ever they're calling them these days -- with no clue about the realities of life. By the way, Jacquie -- I agree with what you said about and I'm glad you saw through that crap he was pulling on them. They really don't get it. They make all these assumptions. I was a little (okay -- a lot) strong on the ABA issue. The reason, because so many people claim it cures half of autistic children. It didn't cure Boone but it did get his attention and open the door to communication. I really don't believe that. Of course my perception could be skewed by the fact that my kid will never be " cured. " Even though I feel like I've reached a certain level of acceptance, there's still this nagging feeling. What could he have been without the disability? Maybe he would have been another Dillon. Dillon's a lot more difficult than Boone. I've mostly got Boone figured out. I still don't have a clue what's going on with Dillon. At the last neuropsych appt, he said the first psych said ADHD, He NEVER said that to me!!!! Not once. I never really thought about it for Dillon. There are the eccentricities that don't fit. But we are an odd bunch. We'll see I guess. This should probably be in another post because I've strayed way off topic. I went our for a mother's day night out on the town with the girls and I've got a major buzz. I need to find out why I feel like I have to tell the whole world -- whole list the part of the world that counts -- when I have a buzz. They cleaned the whole house while I was gone!!!! Sissi who is going to sleep -- till noon at least Re: I knew it was a mistake > Sissi > > I read what you wrote about mentally ill children and their parents.
