I do it to keep up my skills (this little boy has a very different diagnosis from , so it maintains skills I would lose otherwise). It's actually part of our financial plan...I need to be employable in the event that Mark dies or is disabled and can't work...because we can't afford enough insurance to make me independently wealthy. :-P Now that I have a steady respite worker for , I wouldn't mind picking up one more child...but no more than that. I didn't work for *many* years when my kids were small, had to do some refresher courses, and have never had what would be considered a " real " job since...because I homeschool, because I like being a full-time mom, and because can't really handle me being away for very long. I got a call from a school district a couple of weeks ago that needs someone two mornings a week, and even that is more than I can handle...I don't want to think about what would do if I disappeared that often for that much time. Seeing a child with a different set of challenges is something that helps maintain my sanity, to be honest, because it forces me to think about something other than CDD and DSI. Going out to work, even if it's just an hour and a half out twice a week, is " play time " for me. Raena

I am delighted to hear that you have a client and, boy, oh, boy, you need a break of any kind that you can get. I am glad that you can still keep things up. I just wondered; I know many people who have licenses of various sorts but are basically full time moms who just do enough to keep their license active. Silly to waste all that expensive training otherwise. Salli

PTs have to take a certain number of continuing ed hours each year to maintain their licenses, so you are never that far gone if you want to go back. There was a time when I could absolutely not have left for even one client. Raena
