Being the eternal optimist am not going to try to get tickets for this

for a month or so - but saw these comments in the Indy review by

Walsh - y7esterday's, p.2

It seems to be quite well reviewed - there was a boy on TV last night

who gave it 10/10 - but thought it might be worth pointing out one bit

" Many set-pieces - the Quidditch match especially - are conducted with

speed and extraordinary violence, as if aimed at the vital teenage

multiplex audiences. Some of the more terrifying moments made me jump

out of my seat and wouldsurely traumatise unsuspecting six and

seven-year-olds. "

also

" The joke potential of having spells turn out wrong is oddly

underplayed, while Alan Rickman (if for nothing else, I have to see

this film!) [as the sinister Professor Snape] broods like a 16th

century Witchfinder General; he is only one discordant element among

many (a scene in the woods with a scary centaur and amurdered unicorn

is another) that seem to come from an altogether darker movie. "

However these are only the dark bits, looks like a good flim for older

kids and parents.

DOES anyone know which castle they used to shoot Hogwart's??

And it really ticks me off when there are toddlers at the flims,

getting bored and distracting everyone else....

I managed (just before half term) to get tickets for a preview screening

on Sat -I rang up on the off chance. So will let you know what we think

(with a spoiler space of course!)

Most of the cinemas seem to be cashing in - on Sat at least 3 of the

rooms in the multiplex are showing HP within half an hour of oour

screening. It will be a Zoo but DH and the DDs (10 & 7) are all hyped up

for it - they know the trailer backwards!(I will secretly drool over AR

of course )

Nic used to know all this stuff but he doesn't post here any

longer. I've just been trying to find the site he used to post about but

you can imagine how many unofficial HP fan club sites there are......

Alnwick Castle in Northumberland for the external shots. DS1 was there on a

school trip during filming so look out for a bunch of schoolkids in red

sweatshirts in the background ;-)

Yes, inside scenes were.

More than one was used, including Alnwick, the Bodlian library in

Oxford and the cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral. Australia House in

London was used for Gringotts and some house in Bracknell for the

Dursleys' house. There was a good article in the Guardian (19.10.01

if anyone wants to do an archive search -

www.guardianunlimited.co.uk) outlining where the film was shot.

My daughter is off to see it on Sunday - they had plenty of tickets

when I went and bought them yesterday, but they are having about 10

screenings. including 2 late nights.
