Dh has had this week off work to replace the living room floor and then

decorate it. He's got on really well and the floor is done, but it's

been a bit of a nightmare as the dds & I are confined either to the

kitchen or their bedrooms on the top floor. I came home at lunchtime

today, having picked up dd1 from school, to find that the workforce (dh,

my dad, and FIL) had decided they were getting on so well that they

would replace the top landing floor while they were about it. So now the

bedrooms are inaccessible too, so dds & I are confined to the kitchen

only. Dds are very unimpressed, and I can't leave them alone in here for

longer than a few seconds as it isn't really childproof, and dd2 isn't

old enough to be safe in here - she's just caught her fingers in a

drawer and is now going round all the cupboards trying to break into

them. She's also very tired as she fell asleep in the car on the way

home from school but wouldn't go back to sleep in her cot as her

grandfathers were outside her room discussing the best way to demolish

the landing floor when I was trying to settle her again.

So now I have a choice of staying here or going out, and I know dd1 is

really too tired to cope with going anywhere, and it will all end in

tears!

We stayed in, and they emptied the saucepan cupboard all over my

extremely dirty kitchen floor! As my lack of being bothered about

housework doesn't extend as far as cooking hygiene, I am going to have

to wash a dozen assorted pans and lids once they are in bed, if that

ever happens - apparently the landing floor is turning out to be A More

Complicated Job Than They Thought It Was Going To Be, and is not likely

to finished any time soon.

Sigh.

We should swap lives for a couple of hours then, as we're having the kitchen

floor replaced, so I have been unable to go into my kitchen for 2 days.

Tiler has told me I'm not allowed to set foot in there at all tonight.

Doesn't make life terribly easy with regard to catering etc!

Sounds like a good excuse for a take-away! Although I realise that

doesn't necessarily help with feeding small children.

They finally got the landing to some kind of normality at about 8 p.m.,

by which time dds were both totally exhausted - they were both tired and

would have normally been asleep by seven. I did try to get them both to

settle in dd1s bed (dd2s room was being used as a workroom, so I

couldn't put her in her cot at all), but dd2 wasn't having it.

Anyway, they are both asleep now, although I'm not speaking to dh ATM!

Oh NO! I can just imagine your horror! Sounds just like something I

would have done too, and been more scared of being told off, than the

actual consequences! Blame DH, why not indeed!

We have a dining table full of unwashed plates, cups, etc, as I couldn't get

in to wash them yesterday. This morning, assuming that the tile adhesive

was probably dry enough to walk on, I tentatively stepped into the kitchen

to tackle the washing up, so that we have enough crockery for breakfast.

This would be me. I'm forever doing things I shouldn't, then get that

creeping feeling of a 6-yearold who have done something they

shouldn't, only that now it's DH rather than my Dad who will be

telling me off. I'm quite sorted, really, I just seem to have this

*accidents* now and then...

I knocked a red wine glass over just a few weeks ago with the result

of the white kitchen wall being covered in grey stripes that wont

disappear (have tried anything from cif onwards but no luck). Planned

to blame it on the kids as it's just next to the highchairs, but

unfortunately DH was there at the time.

Another time I left the bath tap on overnight in DH's flat with the

result of water leaking through to the floor below, ruining the newly

painted white ceiling below. Unforgiveable really, but it was 24hours

after DD's birth and I had lots of stitches and generally was a bit

out of touch with reality... thankfully DH was very understanding at

the time, and made me love him just that little bit more...

IKWYM...

But I can't get away with blaming it on the kids. Caitlin scribbled red

felt pen on our brand new lilac and cream duvet cover this morning. Rob

hasn't seen it yet, but when he does, *I* will be in trouble, because *I*

" shouldn't have let her have the pen in the first place " . As if I gave it

to her!

(I just wasn't really supervising at the time, due to it being slightly

before 7am, and I was still trying hard to be asleep)

Sort of - dh's work laptop (at home with him this week) and a wireless

LAN in the house. There are advantages to dh being an IT professional.

I did this once...

trap myself.

dw (dg back then) was not amused or sympathetic

I doubt it as I have cancelled my AOL subscription! The only known link to

this, is on www.familygarland.co.uk which, coincidently, I note, has been

updated today with a beautiful new picture of Fraser...

Meanwhile, re the umbrella campaign... anyone notice the extended Indian

summer we've had???

Thanks for your welcome back!

That's where you're wrong. I checked all my links whilst updating today, and

you're still busy earning nothing ;-)

Why are my posts taking 24+ hours to appear?

We were doing quite well through yesterday and today up until about half

an hour ago, when the radiator which dh was taking off to paint behind

turned out to have a very dodgy connector. He's just had to drain the

central heating system, and we currently have no water.

Oh, and dd2 has just woken up from her sleep with a temperature of 103,

and refused to swallow the second spoonful of the dose of Calpol I was

trying to give her, so it ended up all over the bedroom carpet...

phone line that snakes round the sitting room into the diningroom when

its linked to my pc! We regularly yell at each other " can I have the

It's great - I hadn't actually realised how good until this week. Means

I can sit in the kitchen with a laptop and do all sorts of stuff - no

more running up and down the stairs to see if we're out of something

when I'm doing the Sainsburys order! I think I'm going to have

withdrawal symptoms next week when dh takes the laptop back to work.

marvels !!! Justmakes me think of a student holiday in Greece years

ago when we had five men helping us to make decisions on what to do

with a broken down car - one of the two we were touring around in -

hmmmm!

Commiserations and hope you are all coping
